We sat down with Holli for a special interview...
Renderotica: Could you give us a little background information about yourself?
Holli: I am now 52 years old and a software developer in Germany. Computer graphics was always just a hobby.
Like probably many men, I am captivated by the shapes of the female body. Fortunately, thanks to technology, today you don't have to be a photographer to have beautiful women pose for you.
Renderotica: How did you get started in 3D Art?
Holli: The first 3D program I used was Giga-CAD on the Commodore 64 home computer. That was a long time ago in 1986. From today's point of view probably a terrible program but it was enough to build a logo for the school newspaper. On the PC I continued with POV Ray. Vue Esprit and Poser followed. Rendering an image used to take hours, but that hasn't changed much to this day. But the results got better!

Renderotica: Can you tell our readers how you would describe your art style and what inspires your choices for an image or series?
Holli: I think my style is mostly pinups. Pretty women with the voluptuous proportions and mostly with long hair. Almost all my life I've been interested in classic fantasy and science fiction and I think that's where a lot of my inspiration comes from. As I was told some of my images would also work as book covers. Other images are undoubtedly influenced by glamour magazines. Since my travels to Japan I am very fascinated by Asian women. However, the latter is not yet very clear in my pictures (yet).

Renderotica: Could you describe the process you go through to set up and render an image?
Holli: Most of the time it starts with a pose. Finding the right pose for an idea is half of the work for me. Then follows the clothing and the environment. I always do the light at the end. I'm not good with light.
I do very little post work. Maybe a little color correction and error correction. Also, I always render images twice as large as the images that will be published later. This also helps minimize errors and noise.

Renderotica: What advice would you give to those just starting out in the 3D art field?
Holli: Compared to when I started, there is countless free content and tutorials on the internet. Use them! Never stop learning and you will always improve. But don't compare your results with others, it will only demotivate you. On the other hand, try to collaborate with other artists. You can learn a lot and it can be a lot of fun to share experiences and ideas.
Renderotica: Do you have any long term goals in relationship to your art?
Holli: There is no real goal. I'm going to keep trying to improve and do what I feel like doing. You never know where the next inspiration will come from.

Renderotica: Are there any projects, now or in the future, that you would like us to be aware of?
Holli: It has already been an exciting year for me. For the first time I've collaborated with another artist and for the first time I've told stories across multiple images. I want that to continue. In the near future, men will probably also appear in my paintings (but never completely without women).
Maybe I'll learn Blender at some point, too. I've been thinking about that for a long time.
