1) what brought you into 3D Toons?
I got into 3d because I liked the work of Ulf and wondered how he made such realistic “drawings”.
Then I learned they were done via computer, and that meant I might have a shot at creating something myself.
2) How did you choose your nickname?
Well, that is a long story. It was a nickname a roommate gave me years ago. I never
imagined it would be my artist name, but once I became a Premier artist, I felt like I had
to stick with it.
3) How long have you been creating your artwork?
I have been doing 3d artwork since 2007
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
That really depends. The new toys that vendors make available to us help a lot with
inspiration. A new set or character or texture can inspire a new series. Also, since the
majority of my art is “all male” the classic “all male” scenarios (locker rooms, prisons,
etc) provide inspiration. For my images with women, I am mainly concerned with making
the women look as beautiful as possible, and to my mind beauty equals strength, so I
try to give all my women a strong quality, even when they might seem delicate.
5) what are the specs of your render machine?
Not what you might think. I live in NYC so don’t have a lot of room. I use a laptop and
external hard drives for pretty much everything.
6) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
This might surprise people since it is not an “all male” image. I love my boys, don’t get
me wrong, but this image has long been my favorite. The color, the reflections in the
water, the positioning of the figures are what make it for me. (see sunset FAV)
7) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
Because I seem to have some minor talent for it. I tend to be a perfectionist and I get
too frustrated when drawing or painting if it doesn’t look perfect (to me). With 3d art, I
can get close to what I want and then with photoshop, I can fix almost anything.
8) What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue as a 3d artist and try to offer more comics in the future.
9) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
Ulf is probably my favorite, though he doesn’t post at rotica. Venca and Jepe.
Incarnadine, Kristin F, Jack Ketch, Man of Steel, Shadoman, Jimbo. Of course these
are all Premier Artists, or were. There are a lot of artists whose work I like a lot: Hellboy,
Alan Davis, Oz Tangles to name just a few. I am sure I am forgetting a lot.
10) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Be patient. Try different programs to see what you feel most comfortable with. I used Daz Studio primarily, and sometimes Carrara or Bryce. I have never tried Poser. And my
Daz Studio is now an old version, but I like it because it works for me. Mostly, my advice is to learn lighting and postwork. Postwork is a godsend. If you have to fork over the
bucks, do it for photoshop. Oh, and playing with material settings helps a lot.
13) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
Oh yes, and I somehow imagine they would be horrified to know about some of my art.
LOL
14) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
That I am going to want to work with Michael 6 but it would mean finally upgrading to Daz Studio 4.
