We sat down with Eltuco for a special interview...
Renderotica: Could you give us a little background information about yourself?
Eltuco: I’m an enthusiast of no particular consequence, more an asset manipulator than an artist who started writing fiction in high school and then belatedly discovered the visual arts as a tool for creating visual references.
Renderotica: How did you get started in 3D Art and what influences did you have that led you to the style of art that you do?
Eltuco: For me, a story without a rich environment and carefully crafted descriptions is nothing more than an ‘after action report’ no matter how intricate is the tale or how well it follows plot structure. A few years ago, I discovered a 3D image of a Viking town created for gaming that was both astonishing in its day, and a near perfect match for the setting of one of my opening scenes. How was it done?
Shortly after, I was recreating the characters in the story in DAZ Studio, and plopping them into simple scenes. As these characters inhabited a near historical parallel universe, their concepts of grooming were understandably different. A quest for realistic body hair led me to Renderotica, where I discovered a lot more.

Renderotica: I notice that most of your works are of solo women, or very intimate everyday scenes, like it could happen to anyone. Is this something that you try to portray or is there anything else that your images mean to you?
Eltuco: I rarely have a particular theme in mind when choosing to do an erotic scene, but I almost invariably prefer uniquely flawed female characters you’d like to meet on a familiar street or in a medieval market. When lazy, I sometimes post them in simple studio lights or on diorama bases, but properly manipulated HDRIs with a few props portray their moments far more effectively, often on a par with more complex asset bashes.

Renderotica: Could you describe the process you go through to set up and render an image?
Eltuco: My process is likely lass disciplined than most artists in this forum. If I start with a character, I set him or her up from the inside out with body hair and anatomical props in place, as I seldom know exactly where they’re going at the onset. Once I decide on a setting, I remove or adjust as required and add clothes and accessories and then set the character aside to await placement or a partner.
Asset bash settings are far more challenging than a character, and often quite frustrating as it’s not uncommon to pull twenty or thirty props from various assets and re-texture the lot of them. When you put it all together with the character(s) posed and positioned, it can be quite rewarding.

Renderotica: What advice would you give to those just starting out in the 3D art field?
Eltuco: I doubt I’m worthy of offering too much advice, but a few things come to mind, regardless. First, don’t be afraid to play hard with your assets. Bend them, mix them, tweak them, and, if possible, re-texture them when they don’t suit. Textures are critical.
Never be afraid to ask for help on the forums if you run into difficulty. 3D rendering can be a complex undertaking, and some assets don’t play well with others. As with many sites, Renderotica has several talented and helpful artists willing to sort through your issues and get you back on track.

Renderotica: Do you have any long term goals in relationship to your art?
Eltuco: I really have no long-term goals beyond creating images others might enjoy.
Renderotica: Are there any projects, now or in the future, that you would like us to be aware of?
Eltuco: Occasionally, I consider setting up a graphic novel, but as my stories involve multiple characters and large-scale combat, the undertaking would probably exceed any level of skill I could hope to achieve.
