We sat down with Jimibbo1 for a special interview...
Renderotica: Could you give us a little background information about yourself?
Jimibbo1: I’m English, enjoying small Town life in rural England. From my desk, I can see a Medieval Bell Tower which is all that remains of a 13th Century abbey, destroyed by Henry VIII during the dissolution. I’m originally from Nottingham, the home of Robin Hood, and I travel their regularly to watch Nottingham Forest play football in the Premier league, which I have done since I was a boy.
Renderotica: How did you get started in 3D Art and what influences did you have that led you the style of art that you do?
Jimibbo1: I started out in 3D artwork just over two years ago. I’ve always held in an interest in art but I mostly got started in 3D art because I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so decided to have a go at doing it myself. That is to say, I’m not a big fan of the “barbie doll” shaped females so prevalent on many 3d art community sites. I prefer to portray what I would call “ordinary” looking females. That doesn’t mean to say that there aren’t hundreds of truly talented artists producing some spectacularly stunning pieces of work, because there are. But more that I was looking for something a little bit different.

Renderotica: 3. I notice that most of your works are of warrior women. What special interest does that hold for you?
Jimibbo1: For me, an ordinary looking girl holds a lot of interest. Whether she’s a warrior, a slave, or a girl taking a walk on a beautiful sandy beach. She can be strong and unyielding, like a warrior, wonderfully feminine and vulnerable, like a slave and confident, or perhaps even a little shy about the way she looks on a nudist beach. These are attitudes of feminine beauty which I like to explore.

Renderotica: Could you describe the process you go through to set up and render an image?
Jimibbo1: I very rarely use an “out of the box” figure. The first thing I do, after loading one up, is to zero all the body sliders and start again, using the various sliders I’ve purchased over time to get what I’m looking for. Hopefully achieving a unique look, particular to my own tastes, or, what I think might suit the image. As the subject of the image, I think this is a vitally important stage and one with which I think I spend the most time.

Renderotica: What advice would you give to those just starting out in the 3D art field?
Jimibbo1: I’m no expert at this, far from it. More an enthusiastic amateur, so I feel a bit daft in offering my advise. The best advise I think I could give, is watch YouTube videos. You can find the answer to almost any question or particular problem you might have. Somebody out there always knows. Also, play with lighting. Keep practising with it. It’s really hard at first but once you begin to gain an understanding of how it works, and what you can do with it, your work will get better and better. Watch a video on Emissive plains. That was when my work really took a turn. It’s a great way to light a scene.

Renderotica: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Jimibbo1: That’s about it I think. Other than to say enjoy it. It’s great way to pass the time. There are some great communities and loads of really helpful people.
