Q) How did you get into creating 3D Products?
I have always been a fan of both 3D and 2D erotic (porn) art. A strong reason for my infatuation with the art was/is the images are fantasy and for the most part can’t be replicated in real life and even movies struggle, I mean Elves, Orcs, Vampires, Tentacles, Perfectly shaped or outrageously shape girls etc.. After some time supporting artists like hitman, Epoch Art, Mongobongo, Black Adder (which I still do) my curiosity peaked on how these images are created. So a few weeks of Google, a few e-mails to some of the artists out there lead me to purchase Poser 3.5 years ago and put my head down to learn the workflow and tools.
Q) Do you prefer Poser over Daz or vice versa? if so please tell us why.
As stated above I started in Poser, used it exclusively for 3 years, loved it, V4 was my main model like many others.
Then about a year ago I wanted to take a look at G2 figures and some of the other content that was DAZ specific. With DSON importer I could use them Poser. I tried G2 in Poser a few sets it was 3D hell for me, the lag was brutal, the models never really seemed to look right based on promo images etc..
I started to play with DAZ, it took 2-3 attempts to learn it before it clicked and I stuck with it, no lag, much more content available, exporting and importing form C4d, 3DSMax is MUCH better.
Then G3 was released and for me Poser = RIP as Smith Micro just has not paid any attention to content and that’s what we need most. I know others who are really good at this use Poser and I am sure it’s a solid solution for some but for me DAZ has been a great change, most of my sets now are DAZ G3 girl, monsters and now Male G£ is out..
Q) What render engine do you use?
I use Octane 3.x now for all my sets, I am learning VRay (slowly) and I am also looking at RedShift as a possible long term option
Q) What was the most challenging image/product you have created OR wanted to create?
From a technical perspective texturing for me is still a WIP to learn, there are so many images I want to make look better but I am just lagging behind on that learning curve.
Artistic challenge, we’ll all my sets have 3-6 cum shots and getting cum look like cum never seems to work or sometimes I get lucky and lighting is perfect and it looks ok, but to me it seems to look fake all too often and I have tired everything out there from 3rd part vendors
Q) Tell us a bit about your creation process, what steps do you go through to make a product?
Concepts usually live in my head, if I get time and motivation I put a lose script together in a text file.
Next create the girls, guys and monsters, tweaking shapes, figuring out hair etc…
Next outfits that fit the story genre
Next create the environment – room, landscape etc… this sometimes has me using 3DSMax to create or manipulate a model to separate parts to re texture things or even make a model (basic stuff)
Next setup lighting
Next Pose, pose, pose… Generally I pose the actors in a file with only the props I need (exported out as OBJs from the scene) then merge the scean file with a pose file.
Next Render
Next Postwork using Photoshop and NiKtools
Q) Is there anything you’d love to create but can’t? (And if so why?)
Yes, I wish I had sculpting skills, rigging skills and texturing skills to create my own monsters or creatures. I use Zbrush to smooth stuff out or create minor adjustments on models but creating one from scratch is not a place I am (yet). I do have plans to be able to do stuff like this along with molding scenes (rooms etc..) and stuff too, I am pretty far that however J
Q) What so far has been your favorite image / product you created and why?
I really liked Daemon Doll House and the mirror explosions that the demons portal through for an image, it was done using Realflow (as are all my cumshots) and I thought it really made that set believable in a fantasy type of way. The set too was fun as hell, step sisters, one a slut one is innocent but both controlled by demons in another world then after being used they wake up near the unbroken mirror they were pulled through.
That needs a second set soon!
Q) What is the one thing you wish you never made and why? (Don’t be shy)
I really have no regrets on my sets, I have done a lot of different subjects from Monster Sex to Futa and recently did a non-consensual title. I would say looking back at some older stuff I cringe at the low quality and poor lighting most of that stuff is long gone thankfully. I wonder sometimes if I be saying the same thing about stuff I make now as I learn something new ever set I do.
Q) what kind of computer do you use for your art?
I have 2 systems:
The main render system is a BOXX Systems creation, 8 core processor, 32 Gig Ram, 512Gig SSD OS drive, 2X 3TB RAID 1 Data drive and 4 GTX 980ti 6 Gig GPU video cards.
My older system has 2 Titan GPUs and a Quad Processor, the difference in render times is crazy…
The Video Card GPUs area needed for OCtane
Q) any advice for those looking to start creating 3D Products?
Learn DAZ or Poser, pick a render engine and learn the ins and outs of the tool. Spend the time to learn this.
Master posing and expressions first, I think these two things bring figures to life first and foremost. Don’t pose symmetrically e.g. arms and legs doing same exact thing on each side, a symmetrical posing = more realistic and interesting, study real life and pose things physically arcuate.
Once you got that down look into mastering lighting.
An interesting pose with good lighting = a nice render
Ask people for advice, critiques, tips, I found most people in the business will help to some degree.
Q) Which has been your favorite series / issue so far?
Erin and Vikki has 6 and I am working on the 7
th release. Yes, its Futa and a niche market but the story and characters have been fun to do. I never had any interest in that genre until a commission request cane for it and well it just took off.
For non-Futa it would be the Dunragon series with Elf / Orc Theme.
Q) Shemale / Futa or Female, which do you prefer making?
Futa is a fun one I do now, with Erin and Vikki series, I do like that but I like the monster sex stuff a lot too and was the main reason I go into this, so Orcs, Vampires etc…
Q) What are the obstacles you face when creating Shemale / Futa content?
Dick props and dick prop textures
Q) When will we see the 2nd volume of ‘Shades Of Darkness’?
Working on character set up for Shades of Darkness Vol 2 now, new characters (sisters) in a new situation. If I can get work flow going like I want you should see a few chapters in 2016 of that genre.
Q) Tell us the typical process of creating a new product
Ideas in my head come and go, some take a while to get fully figured out. Generally I know I want to do say the second release of Shades of Darkness and I will think over different situations in my head but until I can get a solid start of who, how and why things are happening I won’t start.
Like with SoD 1 Erica going missing for a few days before anyone would have relied to give the bad guys time to chop her car up and dispose of all that then the end what actually happens, rescue, cliffhanger and how does that shape up.
I won’t start until that’s figured out the middle sex parts are easy to do.
Q) any advice for those looking to start creating finished artowrk?
It’s going to take you a solid year of learning if you really want to do it right and put out quality, don’t rush it, take your time learn what you need to.
Q) With the ever changing climate of 3D what do you see as the pros and cons?
CONS: The high end programs out there can do so much more, hair, soft body physics, modeling and texturing but to use them the learning curve is steep and the bigger challenge is getting assets (models) into them. Some are easier than others but once you get stuff in them (C4D, Maya, 3DSMax) then you need to learn another render engine, create or manipulate a skin shader etc… and if you want to animate in them then there is rigging and weight mapping and expression all doable but takes another level of learning and understanding.
PROS: For all the learning and effort it takes to get DAZ or Poser models into the higher end 3D applications the renders you can do look amazing, several artists use some of them now like HZZR, Hitman, and Blackadder and you can just see their quality is at another level
Q) what are you planning for the future?
I am slowly learning C4D and if things go right I may be doing a set in C4D this year, depends on time and my ability to learn it.
Animation, I have made a few attempts and had some help form Stone Sorceress. I have committed to doing one simple animation a month and would like to include some simple loops I my sets soon.
Q) Speech time! any final words you have for your, fans and fellow 3D community?
The community has been fantastic going back to my early days and the help I got from everyone I have communicated with and still do. I won’t name them as I don’t want to promote them to get spammed with help requests J but I can tell you 90% of the people I reached out to over the years have all helped and corresponded with me and it’s appreciated.
For all of you that support me when I list these sets THANK YOU, without that I would do this as more a hobby (my original thoughts) and not target it as a real “job”. I am not at the point this is a real job although I do this more than 40hours a week now:-O
Thanks to the Vendors like Renderotica that are kind enough to list my projects and help tremendously with each set.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or requests, I respond to all my e-mails and PMs!
