1) what brought you into 3D Toons?
Mainly the fact I cannot draw a stone lick! After many attempts and numerous courses on drawing, etc. I’ve had to come to the realization that I just cannot draw. Much like the fact I cannot breathe underwater or fly; I just can’t draw to save my life. I used to be a member of John Person’s website and saw they had a ‘guest artist’ area; and after seeing the (honestly) shitty artwork there, I just said to myself “I can do better than that!”. So I fired up my Poser 4 (bootleg back in the day) and hammered out a quickie IR picture. About 30 minutes later I got a letter after posting my little 3d picture from the webmassah, Big Daddy. All he said was “Can you do more of this?” and not realizing what was going to happen in my life, I stupidly said, “Sure I can!”. And what essentially started as a joke using my hobby has ended up taking over my entire life now. Here I sit with my first render farm, cranking out 3d porno pictures and loving every minute of it!
2) How did you choose your nickname?
Well, after talking with Big Daddy; he wanted to set up a paysite with my crude at the time 3d. And we’re talking contracts and everything; totally professional. At the time, I was super huge in the RPG Hackmaster; so I assembled the group, Brew City Hackers at a local restaurant and told them the deal. After 2-3 hours of eating and bouncing ideas for a ‘name’ off of each other the name ‘Uncle Sickey’ came up and we all decided it was pervy enough and yet clean cut to do the job as my online pseudonym. That’s about it; but as a aside, it still makes me chuckle to get jobs as and because I’m Uncle Sickey. I just think that’s pretty damn cool.
3) How long have you been creating your artwork?
I started doing 3d as a on again; off again deal about 1999 or so. It was just a nice way of eating up a few hours after work and possibly create some nice pictures. Back then, I was using Bryce as well as Poser and there were NO tutorials or such nonsense online. So I was learning by doing; also known as OJT (on the job training). Literally, it took years to figure out how to conform the clothing to the figure; once I learned that, it was balls to the wall! All in all, it took me about 3 years to figure out the basics of 3d. I’m a pervert dear reader; and not that smart if you haven’t figured it out yet.
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
As for inspirations; lately I’ve been using Deviant Art and just typing random keywords like ‘slut/whore’ etc. and seeing what comes up. Also I visit my local comic book shop; if it’s basically well-stocked or you can talk to the proprietor, ask about a periodical called ‘Previews magazine’. Previews is a comic book catalogue; with everything from the basic comics, up to import t-shirts from Japan! I use Previews sometimes to just read through and get story ideas and also to pick up ‘guide books’ with different poses of males and females in a variety of poses. From weapons to swords, etc. most of these books are for 10-20 bucks and are useful for the rest of your 3d career!
When I first started 3d though; I was using my personal sexual adventures for my stories, etc. Being stationed on Okinawa for almost 4 years; I had the great fortune of getting into the strange sexual underbelly of Japanese society with my buddy Shackleford. We used to attend swing parties, gangbangs, etc. For some reason, the hubbies loved watching their wives being fucked by us Gaijin (barbarians). So when you see big titted Japanese ladies; you can tip your hat in thanks to my friends and I; as we did our best to spread the ‘big titty’ seed in Japan for many years!
5) what are the specs of your render machine?
My machine is a custom built monster by DVNT technologies (the company that builds machines for Disney and Pixar). It’s an ACPI x64 PC with a 12 core processor with 32Gb of Ram and 6Tb of installed HD memory. I just picked up the ‘slave’ for the render farm and it has the same configuration to my custom PC.
6) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
To be honest it was a custom commission I can’t really post anywhere because it was so ‘wrong’ and raunchy it would shatter every TOS on most forums online. After that top story; my favorite work would have to be a collaboration with Doc Robo from Mind Control Comics called Femina Machinae. I’ll have to get that one posted as it was my first multi-chapter story.
7) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
I’m sure everyone has said ‘you can do anything’; and that’s my answer as well. From prehistoric shemale gangbangs to ultra sci-fi space opera type adventures; the only limit is your personal fetishes and fantasies. I advise other 3d artists to try the ‘contrast’ method I use. Like if you are good at BDSM and latex type pictures; try something 180 degrees opposite of that just to see how it turns out. You’ll be surprised more times than not by the results; and perhaps you discover a new talent you didn’t know about!
8) What are your plans for the future?
Personally, it’s getting back on the 3d ‘hump’. Having dealt with a big ass cancer illness this past summer and losing over ¾ of this year with surgeries, recovery and that bullshit; I’m really behind the curve productivity wise. If I can get my damn machines to handshake properly I can make up for lost time very easily. Right now I got the machines handshaking; but now Poser doesn’t want to synch up. It’ll be a little bit, but I’ll figure it out (or at least do renders on both machines at the same time, fuck it).
9) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
Kinky Jimmy, Turk128, Loki, Mondo Bongo (love them bestiality pics of his), Po-Ju (‘nuff said on that), The Captain (from hentai foundry), Eroquis (awesome Japanese artist; look up his work if you like monsters/tentacle action). Pretty much any artist that just pushes the boundaries of both sexual norms and creativity. Also, Ferres, Hines, Saint of Pain, and Roberts from Dofantasy comics. My biggest friend and artist is the immortal deMulloto; a great friend and inspiration when I first started doing 3d.
10) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Win the lottery! No, seriously; this is a time sucking, money eating hobby! But if you can contain your initial expenditure to some base figures (I advise M4/V4), and a few good ‘base’ sets and lighting options. You can develop your own style in short order; and never, NEVER throw away a bad picture. You can learn far more from a bad pic than from a good picture in my experience. Believe me, I have tons of shit test pictures; and they all have taught me something. Like you really have to morph that horse cock before you attach it to your Natalie Portman figure! :D
11) When developing your pose & animation sets, what's been your most influential source for ideas?
Comic reference books; and all of those lovely sluts online who do the most deviant things for money (God bless ‘em). The main ‘trick’ to poses is to pose the hip first; and then move the torso, arms and legs around it; it’ll save you tons of time and effort, Uncle promises!
12) Any hints on what your next project is going to include?
Right now I’m outlining and assembling the sets/vehicles for a big-ass science fiction story. It’ll be loosely based around Ferres’ incredible and old Ancient Earth series from back in the newsgroup/dial up days. So there’ll be space battles with entire fleets, earth and alien female slave auctions and all sorts of lovely escapades for my main heroine. I’m pretty much making it to cater to ALL of my fetishes; from forced lesbianism to clone slut armies.
13) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
Oh I had a real job before 3d just pushed it out of my life and took over. For over 20 years I did shipping and receiving for a multi-million dollar company that did business with NASA and other such organizations worldwide. My claim to fame was to ship a calibrated glass (yes, fucking glass!) sheet that measured 5 feet by 8 feet to Switzerland and it didn’t get a chip on it! And yes, I packed the shit out of it; like if I had Bianca Beauchamp begging me for anal in my bedroom! If you don’t know who she is; just do an image search for her. 5’2” with F cup implants; it’s like someone took one of my 3d females and made her flesh!
14) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
3d printing excites me the most; and only for personal reasons too. I gave up doing my miniature wargaming hobby because the figures cost too much; now with 3d printing in a few years I should be able to reconstruct my Imperial Guard army once again. Just now, I’ll use all female guardswomen with big ass tits holding lasguns!
The one thing I dreaded about 3d has already happened; and that being our favorite little hobby and fetish (3d erotica) being swamped with shit pictures by hacks who wouldn’t know a render node from a nipple if you held a gun to their heads! So if you’re serious about making 3d a career and not just a happy past time; you will have to relegate yourself to explaining to non-3d wise people that not all 3d is shitty. Be patient and send a few samples of your best work (in fact, put together a portfolio of your best stuff; you never know when it’ll come in handy). It’s an uphill fight; but damn it, if you love doing 3d it will be worth it in the long run!
Now quit reading this bullshit and get rendering!
16. I’m adding a sixteenth option to this online interview; and that would be to pimp for the DAVE school.
Why you ask? Simple, I attended the DAVE school and still think of my time there (short as it was, thanks to cancer) as some of the best, most awesome days of my life! I’m gonna be straight up with you; attending the DAVE (digital animation and visual effects) school will require you to devote all of your mind, body and soul to learning 24/7 for a year! It’s also a bit pricey, roughly 60k for the year; 40k for the school and 20k or so for the housing in lovely Orlando. But I swear to you on Bianca Beauchamp’s awesome fake tits that you can pay it all back within 3 years after you graduate! The DAVE school is one of the 3 top 3d schools in the entire WORLD; not locally, not in the country the fucking world! My class had people from Africa, Asia, Austrailia; just everywhere all working together to be the best 3d creators they could become. Also, the biggies in the 3d world visit; from Pixar to Bioware, pretty much an awesome way to network and see what the real world expects from you post-graduation. Before I had to leave (thanks cancer, you fucking disease); I had the good fortune to meet one of the bigwigs at BioWare and asked him why Mass Effect’s ending sucked dog balls! Now that is something you can’t put a price tag on! So go check out the school online and over on youtube; get loans, sell cookies, do what you have to and get in there if you’re serious about making high end 3d with cutting edge hardware and software (they upped to Maya from Lightwave when I attended), then you need to seriously check out the DAVE school. Also, tell them that Uncle Sickey sent you; I actually got into the school ‘as’ Uncle, so they know me.
oh yes, in my class that I dropped; every one of them was hired by Hollywood and big video game companies 2/3 of the way through the course
