Q) what brought you into 3D?
I always had a fascination to learn 3D Art, when I discovered Poser and Daz studio that’s when my fascination with 3D grew even more, I was hooked!
Q) How did you choose your nickname?
When I first started using computers, I had to chose a name for my email, etc. It seemed every time I tried to use a name it was taken by someone else, so out of desperation, I sorted through a stack of video/movies, one was named warlock, I typed the name in except replaced the K with a C and bingo, I had my nickname warloc (-:
Q) How long have you been creating your artwork?
I started using Poser and Daz less than 2 years ago and it was a steep learning curve for me trying to learn all the tools to create 3d artwork.
Q) what are the specs of your render machine?
I have a Lenovo Desktop, i5 Processor with 28 G’s of ram, one terabyte hard drive.
Q)Poser or Daz Studio and why?
I started out with Poser until I discovered DAZ, after using DAZ I found it easier to use and the render time of DAZ was faster than poser so I decided to stick with DAZ.
Q) What renderer do you use? (Stock Poser or Daz or 3rd party) And what lead you to use it?
I use the DAZ3D render engine mostly, I tried reality 4, and others 3rd party render engines but for me the render time of those other engines just take too much time, and the my style of artwork does not require the super realism. I like the more artistic style to my images versus the perfect photo like image.
Q) Is there any image you’ve made that you wish you didn’t? why?
Not really, it has been a learning experience over time and my first piece of artwork can’t even compare to the work I do now, I look back now and what I thought was great then, I say to myself OMG what was I thinking , practice makes perfect they say and believe it takes time.
Q) What is your favorite ‘style’ of art to create?
Fantasy
Q) You’re a Michigander, North, South, East or West? Born and raised or transplant?
Most my life has been in the Chelsea/Ann Arbor Michigan area.
Q) As a relatively new artist, you’re coming into the field at the ‘height’ of the tech so to speak, what’s been your biggest challenge / learning curve so far?
The biggest challenge is learning the tools within DAZ and Photoshop. I still have a lot to learn and know enough to dangerous (-: .
Q) Many of your renders have an “old photograph” look, or what the kids today call “Instagram filters” do you get that effect during rendering (IE with lighting) or during Postwork?
It took me awhile to find my style and I also experiment with other techniques as well, but my preference is the antique look, it allows me to create a more artistic image. I start with a 3D render and then start the post work. In the post work stage I can manipulate the lighting and use various filters to achieve the final results.
Q) a few of your renders remind me of Boris Vallejo & Frank Frazetta, were either of them influences on you?
Very much so, I’m a fine of both! their work tells stories of adventure, danger, action and display the beauty of the human body .
Q) in a perfect world, what is your dream render to create?
I would love to master the skills of Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta and create my own work of art that could stand next to theirs.
Q)) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
3D gives me the ability to be creative in many ways, everything I need to create art is at my fingertips. The process to create art is much faster and very more flexible then the use of paints or pencil. if I make a mistake it’s only a matter of quickly editing and doing another render or touch up using photoshop.
Q) What are your plans for the future?
Well one day I hope to retire, and hopefully my artistic abilities will be at its best by then, I would love to display and sell my art at various Art Fairs.
Q) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
For me I have a passion to be creative and explore the limits of what i’m trying to create, I do this not for money or to please anyone else, its what i enjoy. I try to learn new techniques, listen to others criticism in a constructive way. Find your own magic/style when creating your art, don’t try to copy others styles but find yours. Work hard and don’t give up, it takes time to get where you want to be.
Q) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
Yes, I work in the Information Technology field.
Q) Speech time! any final words you have for your, fans and fellow 3D community?
I want to thank everyone for their support, great comments and criticisms, it is greatly appreciated and encourages me to continue to share my Art and hopefully what I create will also encourage others to be creative as well.
