First of all let me say that my native language is german. So please excuse my poor knowledge of English.
1) what brought you into 3D?
I wrote some stories for my kids and thought it would be a good idea to illustrate them.
I'm not very good with pencil drawings - that's why I decided to try out 3D modeling.
Because of a small budget, I downloaded Blender3D and began to model.
This is one of my first tries. I later gave up to model everything by myself and since then I use Daz3D to pose figures and Blender3D for the rest.
2) How did you choose your nickname?
Mantikor was one of the main figures of the stories I wrote for my kids.
3) How long have you been creating your artwork?
I started to model in 2007 or 2008 - I don't remember exactly.
I wouldn't call it "artwork". I don't see myself as an artist. I would call myself a craftsman. I'm working on my images more like a software developer than like an artist.
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
There are so many sources - books, movies, tv-shows, the web, other images (of course) ... and my own imagination.
5) what are the specs of your render machine?
I have a simple HP Workstation xw4600. It is about 5 years old and far from being up to date. For the rendering I can use a few more (and more advanced) HP workstations.
6) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
I don't have a favourite image. But I use one for my mobile.
7) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
Why not? It's just like software development. You can build and reuse scenes in parts or complete.
Furthermore - as stated above - I'm not very good with pencil drawings.
8) What are your plans for the future?
I have some more ideas for comics and would like to realize them.
9) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
I have a bad memory for names. I have lots of favourite images - but for almost all of them I don't remember the name of the creator.
10) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Phew ... I'm a bad advisor. My way of creating 3D images is a bit special. I know of nobody else who is working like me. Maybe I would say: look for someone else who is making images in a more convenient way :^)
Apart from that: Have an eye on details. Details make the difference between good images and average images..
11) When developing your poses, what's been your most influential source for ideas?
I mostly create images for comics. The particular situation (or scene) determines the poses (what are the figures doing and what are they talking about). There is no special source for ideas.
12) Any hints on what your next project is going to include?
The next episode of "Annabell's Adventures" will bring Annabell in something like "examination stress"... :-)
13) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
Indeed I have a job, a wife, kids and a dog. All of them have a higher priority than making images.
I'm working as a software developer in the medical/pharmaceutical sector. The software is for experts only (nothing you can buy in a shop). When I come home, my wife, the kids and the dog want my time. With some luck I find a few minutes in the evening to create the one or the other image.
14) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
I don't have a vast overview of what "advancements" we might talk. I have too few free time to be "on the cutting edge". I'm using Blender3D and Luxrender for years. From time to time I take a look for new versions - and that's it. Normally I don't even change to new versions as long as I'm working on a comic. Version changes take place between two comics.
Well - 3D is a hobby. Ask me something about compiler-technologies or programming techniques or - if you like - how to feed a dog with diabetes... :-)
15) Speech time! any final words you have for your, fans and fellow 3D community?
Keep creative!
