1) what brought you into 3D?
I started creating mens clothing for my store in Second Life, as well as doing some photography. I then discovered Daz Studio and started fiddling.
2) How did you choose your nickname?
My Second Life username was Butch and I added the "sl", because Butch was already in use here. It's called being unimaginative.
3) How long have you been creating your artwork?
In earnest, since about 2006, when I started creating clothing in photoshop. When I discovered Daz Studio my direction changed to where I am now.
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
A lot of my ideas come from 50's, 60's and 70's porn/beefcake - when men were men and had body hair. Early Colt Studio photos are my favourite.
5) what are the specs of your render machine?
i7-4770
two gtx980 gpus
32gb ram
and lots of annoying blue lights
6) Poser or Daz Studio and why?
Daz Studio. Simply because it was free and, to me, seemed easy to use.
7) What renderer do you use? (Stock Poser or Daz or 3rd party) And what lead you to use it?
Originally I was only using 3delight and Reality2. When Reality 4 was released I didn't like it, so I tried the Octane demo and liked it. Now I use Octane for most renders and, apart from the occasional crash and issues with dynamic clothing, I'm still happy with it.
8) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
My favourites keep changing, but I do have regular favourite characters - Ben, Butch and Nana, in particular.
9) Is there any image you’ve made that you wish you didn’t? why?
Lots - in hindsight, because they're rather crappy. But, it's all part of the learning curve, isn't it?
10) What do you feel is missing for artists who create male centered content?
A really good looking scrotum with testicles that morph realistically.
11) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
Most of my family dabble in art, so I've tried various things but, 3D is the form that I can best express myself.
12) What are your plans for the future?
Learning lots more and getting better at what I do.
13) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
On Renderotica, Alandavis - he does wonderfully bizarre images. In the outside world, my father - he was an incredibly talented wood craftsman.
14) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Three things... Create work that you want to create, not what other people say you should. Good work isn't always popular and popular work isn't always good. And, lastly, read the instructions before you do things then, read them again - it makes life so much easier.
15) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
3D's just a hobby. Currently I'm not working, although I should really get off my arse and get another job.
16) Speech time! any final words you have for your, fans and fellow 3D community?
A big thankyou to everyone who've commented, critiqued and rated my images. Hopefully, I haven't sounded like a complete dick and, With luck, this five minutes of fame won't go to my head.
