1) How did you choose your nickname?
Jenay was the main actor in my fantasy short stories I wrote in the late 70s, a young adventurer
who explores hidden secrets and the remnants of an older civilization, along with his girl friend
Sylveya. I created some pics featuring both of them.
2) How long have you been creating your artwork?
In my teenage years I worked with pencils and oil colors, but I never was good in painting people.
Late in the 90s I started with 3D computer generated artwork, mostly environments and landscapes. In 2001 I found the program Poser, that was the beginning of my Poser era that still lasts until today. It was the first time I was able to put people into my scenes and tell fantasy stories I wrote as I was young.
3) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
I find inspiration in the galleries here and there. Comics and book covers (mostly fantasy and scifi stuff) also are a precious well. Most of my architecture and background models are inspired by what I found in the real world while travelling around.
4) what are the specs of your render machine?
Oh - I don't dare to tell that I still have an age-old PC: AMD Sempron 1800 GHz with 1 Gig of RAM and NVIDIA graphics board. That's the reason why I am still using Poser 5 oder Poser 7, and mostly V3 or V4 characters. And my renders are not as big as nowadays usual. 1200 or 1600 pixels in size seem a reasonable resolution for posting on the web.
5) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
Difficult question - I have so many favs. But I better provide something more recent:
6) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
As I told I am not so good in drawing and painting as I wished.
7) What are your plans for the future?
At the moment I am learning the 3D modelling tool Blender. I hope to become better and better with modelling.
An other project is my comic. Maybe - one day - I'll finish a complete erotic fantasy story. I have
so many ideas, but sometimes I am too busy - or too lazy ;)
8) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
Among the painters I admire are such famous names like Louis Royo, Frank Frazetta, Boris Vellejo, to name a few.
There are also traditional painters among the Prerrafaelitas, Art Nouveau and the Symbolists that inspire me. Some great comic artists are Serpieri with his heroine Druuna and Jim Balent with his witch saga. In the Poser world I have more favorites that I can tell.
9) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Study those old masters and learn how they arrange scenes and lighting. Yes, it's something like painting, but you are painting in 3D, not with oil on canvas. But the same principles apply: composition, proportion, the golden ratio and the rule of three. And don't be frustrated, 3D has a steep learning curve in my opinion.
10) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
I have a full-time job (computer and software related) as a test engineer. Rendering and creating artwork is left for my spare time in the evening (if I am not too tired) or for the week-ends.
11) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
I think the human body with all it's bending parts made some incredible progress in Poser and other 3D programs since I started with good old Posetta (the girl from Poser 4, your remember ??). The realism became incredible - and this is somehow intimidating: in the near future, who can tell, what is real, and what is 3D fake ??
