1) what brought you into 3D Toons?
Real life isn´t funny. Interhuman relations often aren´t funny too. 3D Toons are like therapy for me.
2) How did you choose your nickname?
I was looking for a really, really funny name – and wikipedia said, "Jack Ketch" is used as a proverbial name for death, Satan and executioner – I thought this funny enough.
3) How long have you been creating your artwork?
I started 1984 as an amateur photographer. One day (in 1998?) I found a free copy of Poser 2 on a photo-mag-CD with an upgrade option to Poser4 – I learned that it was much easier to setup lights and human figures in poser than in a real studio. In addition to it the female Posette-figure was way more sexier than any human model I was able to decoy into my traps.
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
Most inspiring is our daily life, particulary the efforts of mankind to find and care for a human counterpart for mating and reproduction.
5) what are the specs of your render machine?
My render machine is a big black low-noise Win-7-PC with some very nice little blue lamps – somebody told me it has an Intel-i7 and 16 gigs ram inside, whoa! My favorite progs are Poser (8), Carrara (7) and Vue (8) – rather old stuff – my oldest piece of software I´m using from time to time is 3D-Studio-V3! I hate software-upgrades.
6) what is your favorite work you’ve created?
My gallery counter shows more than 1.100 works – every single pic was my favorite when I posted it.
7) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
3D is the ideal medium for lazy photographers and people who can´t draw
8) What are your plans for the future?
Growing old gracefully
9) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
Renderotica is such a great group of artists. My favorite is the Premier-Team.
10) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Don´t render if you haven´t a story. There are already millions of nude amazons with a sword ….
11) When developing your pose & animation sets, what's been your most influential source for ideas?
My most influential sources for ideas are old playboy cartoons (Sokol, Siegel, Dedini …)
12) Any hints on what your next project is going to include?
I don´t work project-oriented. There is an idea today and a picure tomorrow.
13) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
With my skills and equipment a full time occupation in 3D-art wouldn´t feed my family and my dog – I´m working in medical technology environment.
14) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
(Photo-)Realism in 3D once was a field for people with enormous skills in sculpting, lighting, texturing and postwork-painting. Today it is a matter of budget to buy figures, clothes, poses, textures, lights and super-render engines. You have to look twice on some Renderotica works to realize if it is a photo or render. But more and more I miss the story behind the picture. In addition to it: when everybody does peak performance, nobody will applaud.
