1) what brought you into 3D artwork?
Ages ago (2001), I stumbled across a site called Renderosity. I was fascinated with what was being created with a program called Poser. I’m a big fan of Frank Frazetta and there were a number of artists creating fantasy images similar to his style. For a while I was just content to view some of the amazing art being created. A few years later I purchased Poser 4 and started dabbling with the tool.
2) How did you choose your nickname or alias?
One of my favorite books is “The Stand” by Stephen King. King’s name for the deadly virus in the book just stuck in my head.
3) How long have you been creating your 3D artwork/content?
’ve been using Poser since 2005.
4) Where do you draw your inspirations from?
I’m a big fan of ancient history, especially Roman history. Have been ever since I took Latin in high school (oops, probably dates me...oh well). I try to use a bit of that flavor in the comics I create. I also get ideas looking at the creations of the other artists at Renderotica..
5) what are the specs of your render/development machine?
I use both a Mac and a Windows box for rendering. The Mac is a 27 inch iMac, mid 2010 variety. It’s has a 3.2 Ghz I3 processor with 12 gigs of ram. I use the mac for rendering and developing the comics I create.
The Windows box is a Dell XPS 8700 I7 with 24 gigs of ram. Mainly used as a rendering box.
I use Poser Pro 2014 on both boxes.
6) what is your favorite work you’ve created? (provide a link OR include an image named “fav”)
Picking a favorite is tough. For an image I would say I like this one a lot:
As for my comics, I have to say it’s either “Acantha’s Surprise” or “Pleasuring Acantha.” Both are off shoots of the Empress Chronicles and focus strictly on some of Acantha’s first sexual encounters.
7) Out of all the various art mediums why 3D?
I’ve found it to be an enjoyable medium to create art.
8) What are your plans for the future?
Hopefully to get better at my craft and continue to create comics and 3d art.
9) who are your favorite artists other than yourself?
Whew. There are so many. My apologies to those I undoubtedly will overlook. Here goes: Shadowman, jack_ketch, KristinF, Nemain, Damselactionbabe, lalverson among others.
10) If someone reading this wants to start creating their own artwork what words of advice would you give them?
Go get a copy of Poser or Daz3D or VUE and dig in. Don’t procrastinate. Be patient and learn from your mistakes. Check out what other artists are doing. I’ve learned a lot just reading the many free tutorials out on the internet. Have fun!
12) Any hints on what your next project is going to include?
Haven’t thought about much about the next project as I’m still heavily invested in completing “The Dark Empress”. But I may do another Lacy Walker comic for a change of pace before continuing the Empress Chronicles.
13) Do you have a job outside of 3D or do you consider this your full time occupation?
This is just a hobby for me. I recently retired so I can spend a bit more time doing 3D now.
14) With all the recent advancements in 3D technology what excites you the most? What do you dread the most?
Almost everything new coming out for 3D technology excites me. I just hope that the advances in software don’t render my computers useless before I can afford to upgrade.
