Hi,

I'm interested in using content like this in a 3D game:
https://www.renderotica....xpressions-G9-Build-A-Bj

I notice there is not an extended license option in my shopping cart. Is that a separate purchase somewhere or is it included in the purchase of this item?

Thanks!

No, in this case the Vendor has decided not to have extended licenses on their products, therefore extended license isn't available, further their poses or expressions are not usable in video games that would require an extended license, and fall under usage of the Standard CGbytes and Renderotica License.

I'm not sure where this falls in the standard vs. extended license to be honest. I personally haven't had any problem with someone using my static poses to pose a game character, since they're going to have to animate the rest of the animation cycle themselves if it's animated. Also doesn't DAZ Bridge basically just let you import poses and animations directly into Unreal/Unity etc?

Ultimate Skin would be very different, since it contains maps, and other products such as props would definitely need an extended license for use in a game because that's mesh work and maps. I've considered adding extended license to my USM products because of the maps, but I've not yet seen anyone doing extended licenses for poses/expressions. I think with props/maps/meshes the issue is that someone can potentially rip that data and reuse it from the game files (yes I know how it's actually done, no I'm not going to elaborate)

If an admin wants to weigh in then their word is law as far as I'm concerned, but personally I haven't been bothered by someone using my poses to pose a character in a non DAZ Studio engine if they can get it to work.

Edit: Keep in mind, I only test my products to work in Studio, and the USM kits only work with Iray as far as I know, so even if I did make USM extended license I have absolutely no idea how someone would get it to work in a game engine :)

From what I understand if just an animation or render series even if used in a game it falls under standard license. If the actual 3d Model (Mesh) is moved into a game engine (Unreal, Unity, Source, etc) and if it allows the end user to remove said mesh from out of the game engine, or the converted mesh is redistributed along with the game, then the extended license is needed. So rendered and animated output normal license, Game engines (where it allows user to move the mesh around within the game engine, and in producing of a game using said figure it is basically redistributing a derivitive of the original mesh) then it falls under extended license. And really it is the redistribution of the mesh that is the key, as a user can use the game engine and record a Machinima movie and it stills fall under the clause that the end user of the Machinima can't extract the mesh from the animated movie output, so still falls under the standard license as the output is still or animated images, and is not redistributing the mesh to the end user. At least that is my understanding.

I mainly create still images or animations from Daz Studio so my use falls under the Standard License.

Just as fast payout casinos build trust by being transparent about withdrawals and processing times, vendors build trust by being upfront about licensing boundaries and permitted use cases.

I’d lean toward this being more of a “standard license” situation for poses/expressions, especially if the buyer still has to do the heavy lifting of animating and rigging in their engine.
