While checking out some of the new comics that have been posted, I noted that there is a section that just reads "Image Collections". I took a look, and it's got stories too, just like the comics section. I'm a little confused on what the difference is. I'm thinking that it's that the image collections don't look like an actual comic, more or less it's just a bunch of images without the comic book style layout. I'm not entirely sure.

Also, as a side note, I saw an interactive story section. I had no idea that was a thing and now I'm super interested. I know how interactive stories work, but how would you create something like that with still images? Like, in a physical book, you would just turn to whatever page it tells you to turn to based on your choice. Is it the same with these comics?

Easy answer to the image collections is you are purchasing copies of the images in a .zip folder rather than a comic in a .pdf format. So even if the image collection is tied together and has a story you are just going to get say 20-60 images in a folder not a .pdf comic. (Though sometimes to be further confusing some vendors include image collections along with the comics so you get both comic in .pdf format, and images (usually .jpg)

As to the interactive comics I couldn't say as I've never gotten anything from the Interactive Media, Games & Movies section so can't say how they differ from the regular 3d or 2d comics. It could be something as simple as using animated images in the comics like Marvel and DC tried with Motion Comics, so would be provided as something like an MPEG4 file but rather than being fully animated (30-60 frames per second) It could be that one out of every five or ten frames of the comics has limited action movement in the frame. or if they have a choose your own adventure setup where depending on users choice at point A. they turn to page B. or C.

Alright, I see what you mean. I took a look at some of the titles and did a little bit of reading, it seems that most of the "interactive" stories are really just visual novel games. I think I might buy a couple just to see what they're like. Building a visual novel game is something that I've always wanted to do so it would be a good learning opportunity. Thanks for explain the comic bit too, I was thoroughly confused.

I was going to suggest a "kinetic novel" or visual novel type when it came to interactive comics, like a one-direction/no-option VN.

Visual novels are not difficult to manage.

I would suggest the Ren'py engine (free), which many popular VNs use as a backbone. If the site allows it, the link is here:
https://www.renpy.org/

Ren'py uses Python as the underlying scripting language, but it's all scripts. It's not difficult if you can manage light programming/dev work.

If you need a GUI, then there's Tyranobuilder. Tyranobuilder is more popular in Japan, with built-in support for Live2d animated figures. I've been wanting to experiment with Live2d, but it's a subscription-based license. Not really willing to pay for that.

If someone could integrate Spine figures into Ren'py like Live2d figures can be integrated into Tyranobuilder, that would be all sorts of amazing. Not holding my breath, though.

There are other VN engines, but I don't have those and cannot comment on them.
