So I'm going to say this, in the last couple of years we've lost a lot of wonderful artists and even more in the last five years (Half of you newbies don't even know who they are)
"When a person is down in the world, an ounce of help is better than a pound of preaching." - basically the person who asked the question just wanted help. Should they carry on with Poser, simple answer - "yes, if they want to" or "If you have some spare time to learn a new program I highly recommend..."
So, take a chill pill, stop preaching, let users decide for themselves. If you need me, I'll be watching terrancew_hod falling off the stage during his Ted Talk. (Watch it on YouTube on Failarmy)
Respect to you all. (Poser and DAZ users alike)

If you think correcting users when they say incorrect, inaccurate things as disrespect, then that's their affair. We're all grown people here. If you feel you can't be honest in a discussion, then maybe this discussion isn't for you.
Please don't play victim when you're doing the attacking.
And I've said throughout this discussion to use the product that works best for you.. but you **don't** have to trash other software to lift yours up.. that's what YOU did. Again it's been over a decade... time to let that go and get to rendering in your software of choice.
And to be honest, Poser users are much as fault for the demise of Poser as Smith Micro. You should have been demanding more of your software and telling the developers what exactly what you needed. I know when I made Poser products and was on the beta team (surprise to you I bet), I made suggestions to make the figures better and I was ignored, because they thought the badly bending figures were good enough, but didn't provide vendors like me the tools to properly make content. Meanwhile Poser users that used the software for years who wanted better content where shouted down by others and told "If you don't like it, go use DAZ Studio."
Then those same people were surprised when they actually started using it. Understand that's where a lot of your older users went, and DS users had nothing to do with that. It was shocking to see poser users all hostile towards each other like that. But a lot of those people from time aren't around anymore because once the software was pretty much unprofitable then sold, many of those people lost their coveted status, quit 3D altogether, had their Poser Ambassador roles removed and booted from the beta team because surprise they didn't move the software forward, they just stirred the pot and finger pointed. So it was a lost opportunity because if if wasn't for people spreading misinformation and figure pointing rather getting the features they wanted from the software to make their renders. The developers needed their feet held to the fire rather than users constantly posting "Daz this, Daz that" then crying poor me when they get called on it.
So yeah, poser may have started the sites, but due to not innovating and improving, figures from another set of software is keeping these stores open. And those sales are what was used to purchase poser from SM.
But if you want to user Poser there's nothing wrong with that, however moaning about other software and events from a decade ago is not productive. Edited by user Tuesday, August 24, 2021 9:21:16 AM(UTC)

FYI Every time Poser offered a new version of their product there were forums set ap and WE DID COMPLAIN in regards to the poor base figures. Smith Micro Turned a blind eye to giving into our demands and made minor improvements that were still in effect through Poser Pro 2014. Some of these talks were heated after each version failed to develop a base figure worth of V4 and up
So basically Smith Micro dropped the ball in regards to base figures
Hellboy... there are far too many people who have berated poser users over the years after all these years the names may have escaped me so giving you the satisfaction of a name or two three four dozens upon Dozens. DAZ Studio base figures are awesome to look at, but on occasion I see renders created where body flaws are still evident. Yet these flaws are few
If I was younger and had the time to learn something new and a few thousand dollars to support it with props hair, poses, and clothing I might have switched, but I am too set in my ways and my years of rendering are in their autum days. I do what I do with What I have and am happy.

And I noted that when poser users brought up figure issues they were berated by other Poser users and some were told to go use DS. And that's what a lot of them did. A lot of DS users these days were former poser users that found the program no longer suited their needs. But a lot of current users act like DS users never used poser.

That might be so, but again it was their choice to do so and more power to them.
I do comic work and for me I am not one to have one back drop and do cover to cover porn in the same prop arena. In my comics I might use a dozen backdrops, so in a home I might have 2 bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom with shower, and sometimes a kitchen and patio. My Base characters consist of a central character, a supportive character, and then a few casual characters, all must be be different textures, have hair props and clothing props. They could be nurses, maid, delivery people and I have to have clothing for them all
My comics usually consist of 90-120 pages and some 80-90 rendered panels. My library is vast and I need it because you cannot use the characters in every comic.. So I have like 80-100 V4 textures. I have 40-50 M4 textures . I have cars boats, jets, and a train, I have specific libraries for certain themes Like Arabian, Hospital, modern Homes, Island and beaches, I even have a castle, I think you get the picture. I am not a cover to cover Porn comic artist. I am a storyteller who does BDSM theme comics here, and Fantasy Transgender / sissy comics elsewhere.
I just could not seeing building up a huge library again using DS. Those who did, great for them. I just did not want to incur a huge expense again, when I had material I already owned. I too a shot with V5 / M5 and DSON spent $250 on two bundles and in the end it was money poorly spent.. and I found out that at the time, some vendors created items that did not have dson conversion included.
My spending for props has dropped quite a bit, I get a few things from the "R" site from time to time as I am always looking for male textures as V-4 textures are like 4 to1 over male textures. I buy a lot from DAVO here and that is basically it. If I commission client wants a specific backdrop and I do need to buy it He/she pays for half or all of it depending on if I might use it again in another comic and it is added to his her costs of the work.
All this DS vrs Poser is in the past now.. do we really need forum threads lasting several pages 2-3 a year dragging up the same old shit?

Maybe a small group of users complained about Poser at some point, I 100% believe you, but I don't even remember a case. However, I'm sure you remember the MASSIVE amounts of rants about how a bad concept Genesis was, how a bad figure it was, how DAZ made a huge mistake, how perfect Poser was, and so on, and so on, and so on, all while paying again and again for minor upgrades just because they were salty at what DAZ was accomplishing.
Obviously the message sent to Smith Micro was "Don't worry, we hate Genesis, Generation 4 is all we need, we will cancel our Platinum Membership and we will keep giving you money regardless because we will never use DAZ, blah, blah, blah". It was such a loud and clear message, even Smith Micro itself made a public statement reassuring their users they were not going to implement Genesis in Poser. Then when years passed and this proved a mistake, it was too late. So yeah, I do agree Poser user's conformism had an important part in Poser's fall.

I shouldn't remind you about Poser user's massive, 10 year old hostility towards DAZ Studio users because of Smith Micro's fault. My question was specific to battlestrength's comment, which implies old members are being disrespected by a lot of DAZ Studio users in this thread, and that is simply not the case. I'm not even addressing a comparison between DAZ Studio figures and third-party figures at this point.

See? This kind of misinformation about DAZ Studio by Poser users is what keeps this thread off-topic and running in circles. As already replied to the very first post. Your old content IS compatible with DAZ Studio. You don't need to replace it.

Well, @hellboy read the posts or am I missing something? @terrancew_hod I don't listen to someone who last posted a picture 4 years ago, so you call my posts 'Attack' ... interesting. You said you're a vendor "but didn't provide vendors like me the tools to properly make content" yet I can't see any of your stuff on here or over at DAZ unless you go under a different name... with nothing to back up your statements with experience. Then, in my books it's null and void. Honestly, I would love to check out your store.
Sorry guys and girls, this topic goes around in circles over and over again. Again, like with Shadowman I produce on average 60 - 80 panelled comics a year. Daz can't match the workflow for my needs, unless that changes by next June then it's making the best with what I've got. I'm not fussed on Photo realistic stuff (like Davo), I don't care about Genesis 8,9,10 whatever it is now. Nor do I care that I don't own two Nvidia 3090's (Sounds like you're playing games with that not rendering)
What's the point in having the all equipment and you don't use it, 3d art is about expressing yourself, if you haven't got all the money in the world, you still can create amazing artwork no matter the system or the software you use.

Yes, you're missing the receipts lol. What posts? I've read the whole thread and I see no trace of "old members being disrespected by a lot of DAZ Studio users". Can you link at least one? DAZ STUDIO USER SINCE 2006

I no longer post pictures because a member here had the audacity to take my renders from the gallery and post them on their site that pay people to view. And when I told them to take them down they gave me some song and dance. I still have the messages in my inbox. But I do buy products here to help keep the forum up. I just bought some stuff so I need to spend that 243 pts to help get something else before it expires.

@terrancew_hod We all have our artwork stolen, some more than others, it's about posting and carrying on. Again, as you said in one of your very old posts "I don't appear to come cross as a troll..." which you are. Again, post some art or build something... otherwise you're just preaching with nothing solid to back it up. As for "You must love being discredited by my posts to keep tagging me in yours" at least I keep posting art and don't give poor excuses... wait until you had your whole store ripped off, not just a couple of pics. Sheesh, that's a lame excuse not to post.
@Hellboy... read dude. Again, I have much respect for you, but honestly... read. I'm not going over everything 'line by line'...
If you want the last words go ahead, as I said "Daz can't match the workflow for my needs" and if someone wants to actually carry on using Poser, let them.

I don't need to post my work when I make it. I'll just post my PG stuff elsewhere and I don't have to worry about people making money off my stuff when that's not the point. Or I'll just make promos for my products and make money that way. Way more productive for my time.

I'm going to need you to provide a link of that sir. I NEVER call people trolls, so you made that up or you're mixing up someone else. Do better.

First we are griping about software and where has it led us?
arguing with each other and making personal accusation
Please. Lets stop all this before it gets too far out of hand and management steps in and puts a halt to it.
if this is all we do in the forums then it is no longer a place for me
stay well and safe everyone I for one no longer care to interact in the forums anymore
