You can move anything within the content directory in daz, I have set all my items within each characters folders, for instance all hair marked as lets say Genesis 8 sits within a folder that is marked Genesis 8, this is for male or female does not matter, then all the cloths, props and poses are within that G8 folder system. I move stuff around all the time. You just cannot move the Data, or Runtime files, that starts problems.
May I ask how you do it ?
- directly in the Windows file directory or within the Daz Studio interface ?
- Is it allowed to create folders with "non-standard" Daz names, ie : "restraints, "pubic hair" and whatever censored word from Daz point of view ?
Thanks
Ok well myself personally I am using what can only be described as how Pixar had it set up.
ie: I use a drive that is no within daz studio itself it is a 6T drive.
I then created a director on that drive to house daz studios MyLibrary (this is what I called it), within MyLirary is the main library must have files, Data, and Runtime directories must be within the MyLibrary folder. Everything else gets its own folder outside this folder Called Assets. Within the assets folders I created more folders separating each asset from another asset. For example lets say Genesis 8 Female, (this is a folder within itself) it houses all my Victoria 8, folders For example anything that affects V8F will be within this folder, like characters, morphs, poses, and other assets. And all I have to do when I am working with something like again V8F then that is only what I open in daz.
This at first sounds very tedious, and well overkill, but while working for other places that have this system, in fact Pixar and another company I did work for had the same system, only difference each had their own drives. So no kidding I had about 50 hard drives in a rack, (hot swap drive bays), so as not to confuse one asset with another. But they had them segregated into different shows or FX for what ever I was working on. So I just kept doing it this way because this is what I am used to.
So you can set it up anyway you want really just remember to keep the Data file and Runtime folders within the initial MyLibrary folder. And then you need to tell Daz where to find it in the content manager.
on this question: Is it allowed to create folders with "non-standard" Daz names, ie : "restraints, "pubic hair" and whatever censored word from Daz point of view ? simple answer is yes. I have one folder dedicated just to Renderotica Items. Pardon the expression but you can use words like Cock and Penis, or Fuckable parts. I actually have a subfolder named
Fuckables.
