After having spent most of today on this, plus several previous sessions, I'm about ready to start smashing my head ona wall.

I'm trying to set it up for the first time, with a G8M who has the Lee7 for Lee8 FBM and materials applied. It's just one thing after another. I eventually got Dicktator matching the G8M fairly well using the 'Sugar Candy Veins 1' from Pumping Pole Palette, but with a grey-green Base colour added alongside the diffuse texture map (which has it looking very weird in texture shaded or Filament view modes but works well in Iray - and I've seen East Asian skin colours described as having a green undertone) along with a Translucency Weight of 0.8. Then I try to add Cover-Up and the nightmare starts.

1 The material copy script doesn't work in DS6, while even test renders (just the G8M and Dictator and some body hair, with the bits of Cover-up gradually added) in DS 4 take forever (it can't use my RTX 5070 Nvidia card, unlike DS4) and screw up any other use of the laptop while they're running. As trying to figure out what's going on has needed many test renders, this was driving me up the wall. But having saved as a scene after the material copy script has been run, and resuming in DS6 ...

2  There are only hierarchical Pumping Pole Palette material presets with Cover-up, which re-set my edited materials on the Dicktator shell as well as applying to the Cover-Up shell surfaces, so I have to re-do them all. Why? There should be non-hierarchical materials that just affect the Cover-Up shell surfaces. This is a real pain.

3 While changing the base colour and Translucency Weight back on the Dicktator shell restores the colour fit with the G8M, on the Cover-up shell it actually gives it a veyr visible green cast in Iray!

4 Visually after applying the Cover-Up material. there's now a discontinuity - a small ridge - at either end of the shaft material, which is the Dicktator shell, as if the displacement map maps/settings on the shaft and the adjacent materials at both ends no longer match. But as far as I can see the displacement settings on the Dicktator shell are the same before (from the Sugar Candy Veins 1 material) and after applying the Cover-Up Sugar Candy Veins 1 Hierarchical preset. I have no idea where these ridges have come from or how to get rid of them.

So I've struggled through the rest, but am completely stuck onn these ridges on the shaft, which weren't there before applying the Cover-Up hierarchical material, even though displacement map and settings are the same on the Dicktator shell before and after.

All this, and I haven't even reached the point of being able to test whether Cover-Up will even do what I want it to.

As Daz 6 scripts are not compatable with Daz 4 (for the most part), you will have to access the Daz 6 script fix page. You can find this here: https://www.renderotica....g=0&cmsn=#post565740 or under Meipe's Script Updates Repository if you want the Diktator (or any of his older products) script copying to work properly. Be thankful he took the time to make the fix; I've got plenty of Riversoft art stuff that I have completely lost use of. Unless I buy the new version that is.

I have not used Cover-Up so cannot speak to the specifics of the program. I would suggest after setting up Cover-Up and Diktator to save modified materials as a Mat Preset in case things go south. Then you can just reload the materials if the are lost.

I don't know if you have tried to render what you've done. Sometimes what you see is NOT what you get, especially if you change surface settings multiple times. A render will give you a final true outcome. If this is the case, it is more a feature of Daz 6 than an issue with the product itself. Sometimes changing the view style method to something else (such as Textural), and then going back to Iray fixes the problem. Sometimes Daz requires a complete re-boot, clearing the cache, or what have you. It's a finicky beast, and Daz 6 even more so in many ways.

If there are still strange artifacts (like lines that shouldn't be there) shells may be colliding with each other. This could happen if the displacement settings on Diktator with the displacement settings go into the Cover-Up's space. If you modified Dikatator's displacement, either manually or through the script, that may be the issue. If you changed them after loading the Cover-up, then that is a possibility. Mess with the Mesh Offset values or displacement settings and see if this doesn't fix the issue. If this is supposed to mimic a condom, then the displacement settings are probably the same - generally his scripts copy everything over with displacement.

I would change Mesh Offset so that the shells are nowhere near each other and turn off all your shells on the figure. Then check and see if you are getting the same issue with the unexplained lines. Another method is hiding all the shells off and then revealing them one by one and checking visually, but I've seen instances where a hidden shell has interfered with other shells. It might be that a 3rd shell is interfering with the other two or that Dikatator's displacement is taking it onto the Cover-up shell or object.

In general, you should come to a final appearance BEFORE loading other things onto Diktator, even including the wet presets that come with PPP.

My advice with Daz itself is that once you have a 5000+ series, don't bother with Daz 4. Everytime you try to render something, even in just the viewport, your CPU will go berserk and eventually overheat. The Daz support gave me settings that would supposedly fix the problem, but they actually made it worse. Most of the scripts that worked in Daz 4 will not work in 6. Daz sales and tech support asserted to me that as of August (I think) all products on their website work with Daz 6 unless specifically noted otherwise. So far, this has been the case for me. Some things that you may have relied on in Daz 4 will likely never be updated; I loved and relied on Skin Builder 8 and now it won't work.

Some of these things may seem basic but I don't know your user-level so am trying to cover everything I know of. I have setup Diktator and other Meipe products hundreds of times, and every time I ran into an issue in the end it was me not considering something or Daz acting weird and not the products themselves. I hope some of this helps; hopefully others who see your issue will chime in as well. Good luck, and remember half of using Daz is about having patience when it screws up (I know, easier said than done), and that it screws up half the time LOL.

I have got all the DS6 version scripts, I've been checking that page for months. There isn't one for Cover-up. I have asked on that page and the product suggestions.

I have an expanding folder of saved whole scenes and mat presets, partly so I can revert some steps when I abandon one series of investigations/fix-attempts, partly in case it makes DS (4 or 6) crashes, which has happened quite a few times (as also happened trying to sort out db xxx's XY Extended. Despite having a real one, I have to say that penises are a real pain in DS.

I said one reason I was hating the lack of the DS6 script was because I was having to do a lot of renders to try to figure out what's going on and it's so slow in DS4 while also stiffing the computer for anything else while it's at it. 2 minutes test renders in DS6 and able to browse etc while it's happening. Nearly an hour in DS4, presuming it didn't crash. and it's not a scene, just the G8M character and Dicktator and Cover-up. Yes, you don't see what you're going to get ti until the Iray render - don't even see the displacement-or-whatever issue until the Iray render. And as I said, my matched Dicktator in Iray looks green in texture shaded or Filament. I very much know I need to render to see what it will be, hence my major issue with teh lack of the DS6 script.

I started with Poser in Feb 2004. I started in DS on the actual day they surprised us with the very first release of DS - 0.9 Public Beta later in 2004 and immediately switched to it from Poser. Back with DS 1, 2 and 3, I turned out to have  a knack for figuring out why certain Poser format (which was all there was until DS 4 and DSON) products from here and the other Render- place misbehaved, exploded into spikes or other such things when loaded into DS, and some people in DAZ tech support and the engineering team would actually send me some of the problems, as I'd figure it out, tested and verified, usually find a workaround, and submit bug reports about what DS wasn't handling right in what way rather than the usual 'help, it's broke' bug reports they get. Since becoming disabled in 2007 I've taken a back seat while keeping a vague eye on developments - and I see a set of freebiescripts I put out in the other Rend- place and posted a link to here back in 2017 has 6000 downloads, plus however many at the Sharing place before that shut. But this last year or so I've been picking it up again.

So, not a novice. I think it says here by my posts I joined in 2012. That's an artifact of one of the Renderotica site changes back in teh day, I made my first purchase here in 2004, but have only posted in the forum very infrequently. Almsot everyone who knew me on the DAZ forums has gone, but was a time I posted a lot there helping people and was the default guy to go to there with weird issues with using Poser format stuff (all there was - DAZ started as a Poser content maker then Poser format content shop until DS4 and DSON) bought elsewhere.

But ... I think I'm giving up on Cover-up. I cna just about get whatn I need on just Dicktator. It;s strange - db XXX's two penises and even teh DAZ Anatomical Elements all manage to have a 'working' foreskin that can be moved to different positions over the glans simply adn without issue, while on Dicktator it's a mess, when in every other way it's superior.

Yeah, I sorta figured you for a vet but I've seen people who joined in 2015 and don't even know the basics. Probably shoulda looked you up, sorry about that. I am also disabled, so I guess we're samies LOL.

I asked for G8 Roasty script conversion; crossing my fingers that he gets time to get back to something old. I had assumed the Cover-up was a condom, but after looking it up I see it's a foreskin add-on that is supposed to alleviate the nightmare of foreskin positioning (at least for me LOL). Without the script conversions, anything with mats like this are so much of a pain you end up spending so much time trying to get it to work that it's not worth the trouble imo. Which is sad, bc I've seen plenty of scripts on RenderHub I thought would be cool but only work in Daz 4.

You are 100% right about using it in Daz 6; don't bother. I've tried with GP and Diktator before their conversions, and it was a nightmare. I was never satisfied with what it looked like in the end, as there were always seams. One thing you might try is using the 3D Delight version in Daz 4. I don't know how 3D Delight works; I got into this after it was introduced and Iray and PBR were on the scene, but seeing as Daz 4 was built to handle 3Delight, it might lessen the load on your PC. Then save the Mats and hope it turns out alright when converted to Iray or PBR in Daz 6??

Anyway you look at it, a product should make your life easier, not harder. It seems now that anytime you are considering purchasing something, you should check that it is Daz 6 compatible. I assume they reworked the script system as better architecture than the hodgepodge they built over the life of Daz 4 (not to mention you get to buy lots of scripts all over again). I also bought a PC with a 5000 series specifically to run Daz, only to find out that they couldn't figure out how to make it work in Daz 4. There is a certain irony in a 3D graphics team not being able to keep pace with a product that was announced months before release.

I really not an expert by any means, just sorta throwing stuff out there I can think of. I hope the script comes out soon, but I have a feeling he has a huge workload just to compete with AI and these script conversions are taking a backseat to that. Good luck to you; it's good to know there are still artists that render rather than using AI to generate thousands of images and picking the best ones ;-)

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

I tthink part of my general trouble with Dicktator may be at least partly because I'm wanting to use it for 'real world normal' dicks - global average is erect length around 5.5 in, girth a bit under 5", and a 7" dick is up in the 99th percentile - which I realise makes me unusal for a user of your products. So I'm starting from dialing it so far from its default to get an actual average dick, a lot of morphs/poses then don't work as well as they do when it's default. (I'm working on rendering out lengthy action/thriller stories that happen to include some graphic sex scenes, not 'porn' as such, and the realistic style of the action/thriller then has to extend to the sex scenes ... and the dicks.)

Don't know about 'artist'. Always classed myself as a 'storyteller', who used to use just the medium of words. Now I'm trying to tell stories by rendering sequences of images, with some narration and the dialogue in accompanying text.

The thing with the AI image making is ...

Last year I got involved cooperating with someone else who was making AI images that incorporated elements I liked. I made suggestions, did some testing, then started something where I'd take a bunch of his images and find some I could take as being a sequence (turning a blind eye to inconsistencies of background and character detail) and would then puzzle out connections so I'd then provide a narrative connecting them. which ended up leading me to dig out the HDD with my DS library on it to render an image for him to use as a prompt for something where he'd been commissioned to do some of his AI images, but just couldn't get the AI to understand the position her wanted the characters in. Which led me to find I could, now - despite my disability, and side effects of the medications I have to take - manage to blunder my way through doing some rendering, which I'd previously pretty much had to give up.

But working with him led me to realize two things about the AI image making that meant I would NOT get into it myself. The first was that it takes a lot of trial and error, changing, tweaking prompts to get what's wanted. Now, my medications have two particular relevant side effects - brain fog, and a completely trashed memory, both long term and moment to moment. I simply can't learn by trial and error because I keep forgetting what I'm doing, what i was then going to do next, and especially what I just did and therefore what I've tried and what i should learn and try changing.

The other thing is that there are limits as to how many details you can put into a prompt - too many details and it starts just ignoring some of them. Which is fine for making single images, but not so good for making a sequence telling a story where one needs consistency in e.g the background. If I wanted to do a single image of my character in an underground car park, I just have to say 'in an underground car park' to the AI and it fills it in - great. In DS, after picking which of a number of different models of underground car parks I have suits the action best, I load it but then have to go through populating it with cars from the car models I have, which is a pain. But for an action sequence in the car park, whole bunch of pictures, once I've set up the car park in DS it stays, consistent, as the background as the characters move around. Whereas with an AI, even if I manage to get it to draw the characters consistently (which it probably won't) performing the actual actions I want (which ti probably won't, and the details matter to me, especially e.g. in a fight sequence), the car park they're in is likely to keep changing.

So, to do some storytelling with images, I'm sticking with DS where I am at least nominally in charge of everything and can get exactly what i want, rather than fighting with some AI that keeps randomly changing details that shouldn't be changing.

At this point I don't think the models are advanced enough for something like you were doing. Great at producing a one-time image, but a series of related images is a lot more difficult. I have seen people create AI videos, and some are pretty good, and with a video being essentially a bunch of renders strung together it seems like capabilities are improving. Videos were once just 10 seconds, but now can be up to 15 minutes in length. I know several of the adult AI sites can produce a wide variety of images and videos of all sorts of styles, but if you have something specific in mind it is like searching for a needle in a haystack (at least right now). If they come up with an image transfer to an AI generator, that might solve the problem. You render your image and then have AI animate it doing various things. You could break it up into stills. You are totally right that using it alongside a story would be difficult without compromising the heart of the story; like you have an action scene pictured but the AI keeps putting things in the wrong places, some of which are integral to the mood.

I would say that my objection to AI is more ethical and people-based rather than its capabilities and potential. I worked with AI when it was far more raw and the images needed heavy editing; nowadays the AI is getting pretty good with its major issues -- hands, faces, and holding implements/weapons. Whatever the future holds, I'm afraid that rendering still images for money isn't economical; I might be able to churn out 5 decent renders in one day if I rushed through it, while the AI from most paid websites can through a thousand plus in a matter of minutes. If you can develop a loyal following (i.e. people paying for a "brand") its totally different, but direct competition there is no contest.

I got into Daz to do renders of my D&D characters, but people seemed to like my adult renders so I used to do those. Put rendering on pause for a while, tho.

As for penis size in Diktator, I have the same issue. I just increase one of the sliders for a smaller type and then work off of that. However, I also have to adjust the displacement and flacid posing, and with a foreskin cover, getting the foreskin with no poke-through becomes a bit nightmarish. Not to mention every pose pack I have purchased scales things for an incredibly-sized dong (I've never actually measured the default) LOL. For some reason I don't believe humans can unhinge their jaws at this point in time ;-) , but to each their own. You'll have to tell me how well the product works now that you have the script; it would be a real time saver for me in the long run :-)

It took me over 30 years to find the right med combo (still have issues but they pale in comparison to before), but once they find it you'll know it. Early on I was impatient for results, but a lot of those meds take a couple of weeks or more to really kick-in. Good luck with your meds!

Good thing I'm not doing it for money, then. I'm just rendering-and-writing a story for me - the sort I'd like to see but never have from someone else. I'm sticking it up at DeviantArt just in case anyone else gets something out of it, shares some of my particular kinks, but I don't actually care whether they do or not. Parts - like the section I'm nearly up to - have to switch to a pay-walled gallery due to DA rules for explicit content, but it's the minimum money possible: $1 for however big that gallery will end up. I'd happily have the whole thing free to everyone, but them's the rulez. I've no interest whatsoever in making money from it.

I have a rather obsessive thing about realism: in my writing, and now in my added rendering. I do LOTS of research about eveyrthng, and obsess over details. Believe it or not, I've got 4 G8Ms set up as the same character, one with a Dicktator attached, one with db xxx's XY, one with XY Extended, and oen with the DAZ Anatomical Eleements attached; and each dick has a Measuremetrics Tailor Tape parented to show the circumferance part way down the shaft, and a Tape Measure set so it's startiing from against the bone of the pubis above the penis and has a measure target parented to the end of the glans so it's reading out the length, as per the measurement methodology of the biggest worldwide sceintific study (which showed the usual quoted assumption that average erect dick length is 6" is an overestimate, presumed to be because the studies that 6" figure was based on all inolved self-reported measurements, and guys tend to exaggerate!). I can therefore see length and girth as I twirl dials, and this character is supposed to be average length (5 1/2 in) but a bit above average girth. Default Dicktator is about 11 1/2 inches, whereas in the real world while there are a very few men with dick's that size, actually 7 in is the 99th percentile.

I've been on the same meds since adding the last one in 2008 (oh, plus one for high blood pressure more recently.)

My main issue is pain, mounting rapidly from its base level while doing ... anything, includng just concentrating, doesn't have to be physical. And when i stop doing whatever's causing the pain to rise and rise and rise, the pain doesn't stop, it justs stops going up. I'm just at a new, much higher base level that lasts for a couple of days, and doing anything else is then cumulative. We went through trying most pain meds back in 2007/8, and, unfortunately, for this pain, most 'pain killers' do absolutely nothing, even things like Diclofenac that are graet with many kinds of really bad pain (bliss when I had soem kidney stones), bu it does nothing for this. Then there are a few I reacted very badly to (Morphine, Tramadol) so can't take (which doesn't bode well for me if I end up dying from cancer the way my father did). So I'm basically on all three pain medications that both do something and I can tolerate and have been since adding the third in 2008. They don't stop the pain at all, just lower the base level a little, and slow the rate the pain goes up while I'm doing things slightly, so I can keep going a little longer before it reaches unbearable screaming level. It leaves me very minimally functional, just about able to look after myself, but that's all. And it's at the price of a number of quite severe side-effects - the really very thick brain fog, the non-functional memory. And the side-effect of chemically completely switching off my sex drive sso I'm not able to be aroused, but that's probably a benefit as it means I don't get frustrated by my inability to have a sex life. And it is a LONG time since the Doctors thought of anything else to try, so I have no prospect of things improving. Mostly i just sit/sprawl floating in the fog with an empty brain and just stare blankly at problems I'd have immediately thought of solutions to back befroe whatever happened in my back in 2007. The fact that I seem to have roused enought to be able to produce renders in DS fro the first time since having to more-or-less give up in 2007 is new and novel. And something to stop my brain completely atrophying. But it does mean I'm just about to start rendering my first sex scene since a short one I did in 2006! And why I'm grappling with these penis figures for the first time (as it were). I've owned them for ages, but not used them until now.
