I look at like the Camaro vs Corvette camps: two very different products from the same maker. Some prefer one, some prefer the other. 

Some have adopted G9 and think it's great and I will not fault them for that. BUT...there are still enough, maybe more of us that prefer G8 for a whole lot of valid reasons, my primary one being that G8 doesn't use up so many resources for a single figure. That was my breaking point. I really did try.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought about $300 worth of G9 bits, add-ons, accouterments, from here, DAZ, the other Render store, and the other-other Render store. I dove in, I gave it my best attempt. I tried to learn and understand the differences and I feel that I did OK with all of that, but trying to get my system to render one G9 and two G8's just failed. Even rendering just one G9 with add-ons took an epic amount of time to get anything usable. 

I will eventually build a new computer. I have to. BUT, the one I have is still pretty powerful. One figure should not tax it that badly but G9 does exactly that. 

also Genesis 9 is MORE expensive than Genesis 8/8.1 on DAZ. i would understand the fact that Genesis 9 is newer, but the price tag, mixed with the current economy as well as everyone running older hardware because of how prices for better computers are currently.

Genesis 8/8.1 is the equivalent of Victoria 4/Michael 4. look how long that support lasted by others! it's like almost a decade old, yet is still one of the best base figures (in my perspective, not so much, it looks outdated as hell) for many!

so don't worry if Genesis 9 is a less of a priority, it's going to be a long supported base figure (and IIRC, Genesis 2 came out shortly after Genesis 1 because the uni-gender mesh didn't work in a lot of cases)

I'll give Genesis 9 credit where it's due. When it was announced I did like the idea was that it was a singular body design which you could then apply feminine or masculine traits too. At the time I thought it was impressive because with G8 there's been certain hairstyles, clothing, items made for G8M I'd love to use on G8F and yeah there's ways to do that but not seamlessly.

So at the time I thought G9 would be the clear solution to this going forward, However its execution... has not been great.

Maybe G10/GX would finally give us a true step forward instead. Take the concept of G9, Fix the Major flaws within it such as its resource intensiveness, improve upon what is good within it and then take the best elements of G3, G8 and 8.1. Merge it all together and we might finally have a Generation we can move on from G8.

What I would definitely like in particular is if G10 could be the one Generation that is Forward Compatible somehow. I know that would be very complex and no doubt not everything would succeed in working but if that could be done via new tools, automation's, however it could be done it would be nice to have so I can at least take bits and pieces from G3 and 8/8.1 over to G10/GX.

you don't want to know the answer to that question...

and only thing actuall that will make gen 9 even more feasible to use is literally headlights for female models.  breastacular don't work cause of the Androgenous Rigging they set up on this version.  if the meshes were separate, like in gen 8, we would have no issues with the geograft at all.

i'm trying to use gen 9, a litte, but not much. only reason is cause soto came out with his last update to gen 9 with breast utilities 2.

overall, gen 8 is STILL miles better than gen 9.

gen 10 is going to either make or break DAZ studio ENTIRELY and I know many in here will agree.
