I have a G8M figure with Dicktator and USM 1.2 that I created a while ago and copied over from older scenes. I recently noticed that the Dicktator Middle Torso area was not rendering the USM shell. The fix was easy enough. I copied the USM1.2 Shell Torso surface and pasted over the Dicktator Middle Torso surface.

But then I decided to try a different USM 1.2 material where the oil covers more of the legs, arms etc. Applying the preferred material to the shell makes no difference. I then decided to create a new USM 1.2 shell and it remains oily all over the body no matter what material I try to apply. I can see nothing changes because I have Iray preview on and the screen does not reload when I apply the materials. I know this worked before. My machine is rendering but when it is done I'll try to delete all the USM1.2 shells and see if that fixes it when I create a new USM 1.2 shell.

Update: Problem Solved

I looked at the scene again and deleted the original USM 1.2 Shell. Then I added a new one and was able to apply the materials. Previously I just turned off the original shell and added a new one. That caused the issues. I did not want to delete the original because I rendered many animation frames and wanted to do a test rendering with the new shell to confirm it would be identical before I deleted the original. And as mentioned a quicker fix was to just copy / paste the surfaces.
