Victoria 9, the Character Essentials, and Starter Essentials as well.

I'm glad they are back to a single, unified figure like Genesis. Cross-gender shapes were one of my favorite features of all generations.
For those interested, the anatomical elements are now part of the Character Essentials, not Pro Bundles.

Are the anatomical elements worth buying this time round?

Previous generations were incredibly basic and not much use for anything but the most tame renders.

No changes on G9's bits.
Just wait for, what's coming up here.

They've always been worth buying for me for what they are. But it depends on what you want from them. They are not porn products.

Thanks :) Looks like I'll have to wait for Meipe then!

Also, there's no export to unity functionality yet. :(

Sadly, those of us who pre-ordered are having trouble getting V9 and her bundle items... but the G9 essentials I was able to get.

Playing around with the g9 base this morning and can't say I'm really impressed. The base figures proportions are more accurate, but whoever used the base figure? Face is better. However, bend issues that existed in g8 are still there in g9. As someone who only renders men I can already see issues in the unimesh as the "masculine" morph doesn't seem very masculine in places. Reminds me of g2m's issues with it being based off g2f's mesh. This feels a lot like "Hey, it's a new figures that's like kinda better, but completely incompatible with your old figures, so go buy everything over again!"

I think a larger issue is that people are complaining about load times for figures. Having one figure that has both male and female morphs in it seems like loading times are going to get even worse.

The launch itself is horribly botched. I'm always amazed that people just keep giving these guys money up front even with their horrible track record of preorders.

Who knows, maybe it will get better. If it doesn't there more than enough content with g8 to last you until g10 rolls out.

They are selling them in a separate product this time, "Genesis 9 Character Essentials". As expected from Utah-based Daz, they aren't in any way articulated, and only have one slider morph for realism. At least you can get them for cheap this time, rather than having to spend a hundred bucks.

I will say that I am incredibly impressed with the V9 model and especially textures. The level of detail truly goes beyond what anyone would conceivably need from a product like this. The JCMs are much improved as well, although still kinda lacking compared to some 3rd party stuff. The only complaint I have so far is that the nipple morphs are either broken or completely useless.

I'm in and out of my office for the next few days unfortunately, but I just had a couple of hours to have a look at the new model.

My initial thoughts are:

Greatly improved range of bend with better JCMs, especially in the shoulders and hip to thigh, this is something I was hoping for and am very pleased with.

I don't know what is going on with the torso bends. When you arch her back, she looks less like her tummy is stretching, and more like she's pregnant.

Attempted applying some G8 hairs using auto-fit, the ones I applied moved up to G9 fine, however they do not work well at all with neck bends and pony tails lose all their bones. I tested this with hairs from Out Of Touch.

My install may be bugged as G9 appears to be 6-8 inches shorter than G8? Can anyone confirm this?

There should be a whole slew of PA characters, the official DAZ face and body morphs, as well as some G8 to G9 conversion tools coming in the next week or so, so I'm not too bummed out that I'm basically stuck away from my desk for a few days. Will check back as soon as I can get back to my computer. o_O

I dunno, it's definitely more flexible, but not really in the way I want or expected.

She's shorter but not by *that* much - G9(f) is 5'7", vs G8F's 5'10.75". They were touting that G9 would more closely match actual human proportions, but I am not seeing evidence of that, her limbs are still too long, and average female height is between 5'2" and 5'5" - G9 is still photoshopped supermodel rather than realistic.

I have to say, I am INCREDIBLY underwhelmed.

Textures are over-dark. No male character morphs. I mean she/he/them are trans, why leave off the punchline?

In my opinion, this was not worth $80 bucks "to me"

Why were you expecting male character morphs in the Victoria 9 Bundle? And who says Victoria 9 is trans? I mean, even if that was the case, there's still no reason for male morphs.

Also, I doubt "punchline" is the correct word to address trans people.

Excuse me... but are you the guy I have to thank for "Max?" That is... without a doubt... THE most used, useful and downright easy to use product I have purchased ever! Thank you so much for all your hard work. It would have been worth buying for the beautiful eyes alone, but the water, oil, eye reflections, tan lines....
Thank you very much!

I'm in wait-and-see mode. I have over 1200 products and they all work on gen 8. I don't really want to deal with new morphs and surface effects and God knows what else! I have yet to have anyone tell me what advantages 9 has over 8... which is the usual level of silliness I expect from a product launch by Daz. You'd think they'd be yelling the "improvements" at the top of their lungs. They aren't.

Big Pro:

Expressions look great compared to older figures.
Joints bend better, still room for improvements.
Con:
The torso mesh topology is a huge downer.
No edge loops on Chest and Navel, and you can see the results. Female breast looks weird like some f*cked up silicon surgery.
Nipples and Navels are only visible when using HD mesh resolution.
I put a geo graft solution for that in the product suggestion section of the DAZ forum.
And I really, really hate the unisex figure solution. I really hated it on Genesis, I hate it on IClone figures and I do hate it on Genesis 9.

Right now, G 9 looks like portrait only figure to me.

All I can say is I am glad I did not nab the presales. I did get the charcter essentials, not really for the gens cause I know the vendors here are going to make way better than Daz could even wet dream of.

Just looking at this so far, I have to ask was Daz high or what trying to hype this as much as they did. It looks rushed and with the way it was rolled out, with all the bugs and missing files WTF? I'm going to make some sets for it but am kinda at a loss for words.

Thank you. It was a lot of work, but I also had lots of fun doing it.

Actually, I'm finishing Genesis 9 versions of my breast products and hopefully, I will work on a new version of Maxx after that.

DAZ makes the best figures, they are just not wet dreaming about doing porn genitals. LOL

I downloaded Gen 9 this morning and had about an hour of time to try stuff out before I had to go back to bed because I still have fever all the time.

So I can't really say very much about it but I don't really see a big jump in tech here. Maybe there are some improvements "under the hood" that a normal user like me can't see directly.

The textures that were in the package are of course nice and render well "right out of the box" with a simple 3 point light. But that was already there in Gen 8.

Anyway, I'm glad I waited and didn't pre-order the Victoria 9.

Sales also seem to be rather not what DAZ envisioned for the first days, that would at least explain why everything is already on 30% off and they are sending emails around with an additional $10 off.
