Hi there, as the title suggests - is this a thing people do? I've seen people offering their services to create morphs etc, but not expressions.

I query, as I have a character that I commissioned someone to bring into Daz, but there are certain types of expressions that just look a bit off with them (namely open-mouthed smiles). Would love to know if this is something that artists do.

I've done the occasional commission in the past but they are usually too expensive (if they are exclusive) or too time-consuming to merit the cost if I don't charge enough. Time is money. There is a balance to be had where I do a commission for a fee but I can then sell it in the marketplace - however, the customer will then wonder why I've charged them more than everyone else for the same product.

If you use 8.1 characters, they have a much wider range of subtle expression morphs, much more than 8.0 characters. So you may want to start there
