So...I have three hard drives in my desktop. C: drive is a small SSD that has only operating system files on it. D: drive is appropriately called storage, and it's 2TB. E: drive is where I keep all of my programs, including DAZ Studio. It's 500GB, and...it has 42GB of free space left. I knew damn well what was taking up all of that space, but just how much I wasn't sure. Now I know.
I looked at the properties for the 'My DAZ3D Library' folder. It is at 300+GB! This is just that folder, it doesn't include the Poser folder that I have linked to Studio to drag in vintage shit from time to time. I think I'm gonna have to reconfigure Studio and put that folder into my D: drive, or I'm gonna run out of space really soon. I tend to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of content per month on average.
So, 300GB. What are all of you at?

300 GB is just massiv. I remember that my first PC was about 50 - 70 GB f that. But I did check out my "My Library" folder and it's at a staggering 14.4 GB. I feel like that's so tiny (cause it is). When I'm navigating through the Content Library, it feels like I'll be looking forever. But I can imagine that yours is insanely large.

Hey Matt! When I upgraded to my desktop instead of using my (non Nvidia) laptop for this I thought to myself "Self, get a separate 1TB hard drive inside it." I bought one within two weeks of my new desktop, installed it myself (which sucked because I know nothing about computer hardware), and dedicated it to simply Daz Studio stuff. I don't know how to add a picture on here, but that drive is currently up to 547 gigs. That doesn't count Daz actually running and having duplicate files on my C drive. And it's amateur compared to someone like Shadoman who's been doing it since slightly after I found out internet porn was a thing.
Also, you know what sucks? C:\ vs E:\ drive save files. It takes me forever, if I ever want to go back to something I worked on with my laptop, to get it running correctly on my desktop. It's always like "I can't find the boob morphs on C, even though you have them as the primary on your E drive... I suck balls, and not in a way Renderotica enjoys...". My suggestion is to get a new, bigger drive, transfer everything onto that, and name that 'E', so you don't feel my pain. Unless you like that sort of thing!

RIG: Windows and Apps run off C: 1TB M.2 SSD (I should have made it at least 2TB in hindsight) E: 2TB M.2 SSD Just for Daz Studio running, Raw Renders and WIP Project Files D: 2 10TB 3.5'' HDDs mirrored as 1 10TB Drive Volume, in case one of the physical drives goes out. For System and App Backups, Product File Backups, Finished Works, and Archival Storage
My Daz Library: Currently at 688GB, 1,006,254 Files, 132,865 Folders (All owned products installed, files still compressed if by default), I feel the majority of the size is duplicates of assets (Characters and Hair) that have been converted to newer base series and added PNGs for hairs, but couldn't tell ya for sure without taking a better look. Looks like some old aniblocks could easily be dropped if I needed to quickly lighten the load.

Well I thought I would quote you because please remember you did ask.
Ok just the drives now. I have one MVME.2 1T drive with software (Operating system, and other software like daz, 3DS Max, and yes even Poser). I have quick replace drawers in this computer, 3 slides each with 6T drives, Two external drives to hold assets, drive one is a 6T, Drive two is actually two 6T running as one drive. Now before anyone says anything nasty, please keep in mind that I used to work for a production company, that worked on movies. I have retired but just cannot keep my hands off this stuff. I also have 4 3T unmounted drives. I'm here for the donuts..... Where are they??

I might do that. It'll take a while to copy the contents over, but it may just be the best solution.

My Art (E:) 4TB drive is where I have my Daz Library which is at 2.55 TB right now lol. It also contains my 7GB Daz 3D folder (DIM, DS, DS Public Build, Hexagon & Install Manager files). I had to resort to deleting all the archives from the Install Manager folder after each product gets installed because I would've definitely run out of room a long time ago. Mind you I keep my 3rd party (from here, *deleted*, etc) downloads on my portable 2 TB G: drive as backups which is sitting at 891GB just for my Daz Stuff folder. And then there's my 10TB Games & Mods (F:) folder which only has 2.44TB left lol. Edited by moderator Monday, January 31, 2022 11:09:10 AM(UTC)

I have nearly 2.5 Tb, but no guarantee there is no duplication. I am getting wiser about what to acquire, simply because I cannot cope with what I have. Probably wisdom is to buy what you want when you want it, rather than buy in sales and think you may eventually use it, forget, or recall but cannot remember what it was...

My DS (I have all my old Poser content in there as well) folder is at a touch over 5 TB but there are lots of characters etc I made in there as well. I am struggling now though, even on a really fast computer (Ryzen 5950 with 128 gb ram and 10gb RTX 3080) it is taking many hours just to load a scene let alone what it is like on my 3 older ones. Loading a base genesis 8 females takes about 15 minutes so I have started a new setup from scratch downloading everything through DazCentral (9266 items) and from renderosity (4094 items) not to mention stuff from all the other sites. However, so far it has really massively sped things up. "The higher and more advanced the civilisation, the more perverted the sex" Aldous Huxley

Jesus, some of you have a lot of content! Yeah, I do have a tendency to grab things because I *think* I might use it for something, but I'm doing a lot less of that now. Kristin, those loading times are insane.

If I went all the way back to when I first started using Poser 22 years ago, I'd imagine my total is north of $30K.

You guys make me feel quite frugal.
My DAZ library is 1.9GB on a 1TB drive in a workstation laptop. I did clean out a lot of my old Poser and Studio content, which I no longer use.
I have 670GB of free space left despite the various art and design applications I have installed as well as other things. Eventually I will probably have to install another SSD drive.

I've always been judicious about my purchases and adding to my library because of the size of files. Just one HDRI package can add hundreds of megabytes to you library. My current library is around 80 Gigs. I started with Poser 2 when it was owned by Fractal, before Meta Creations, before efrontier, before Smith Micro. (I'm an "old fuck", quoting George Carlin) When I import a model from poser I make a copy of the geometry and materials in the Daz runtime library, so it will be be self sufficient and not rely on an external link.
I used to use Vue to import and render in landscapes, it had a good render engine, but the files were very large and you can't export anything unless you have the pro version which cost a lot. When Daz studio started, I waited until the reviews and the artwork being produced made mw want to switch. I've punted all my old Vue files Edited by user Thursday, February 17, 2022 5:17:56 PM(UTC)

I try to be judicious anymore, not just grabbing something that I may have a use for later. I got a bunch of the NowCrowd billboard sets over at Daz, and they are HUGE! I've yet to do anything with them either, LOL!

Oh dear, now I actually looked 😮
I actually spread my stuff a bit into my personal library which contains my material & renders, the official Daz library as well as a 'local' and 'Renderotica' library. All apart from the actual program folder. This helps me to keep track of things and rules out getting confronted with monstrosities when I don't want to ;)
Lessee.... My data library 640Mb (should be enough for everyone! 😂), program folder is 1Gb, Daz 3D library is ... gonna grab some coffee, this can take a while. 301Gb (you gotta be kidding me!), Renderotica library is 12,5 Gb and finally my local library is 688Mb. However, I just got myself an alien army from this place, so I suspect I can add another 800 or so Mb.
SO that's quite a lot of data :)
