There's a fairly large array of comics here on Renderotica that I've seen of many different styles, page lengths, story quality, etc. I've also ventured the *deleted* and *deleted* to look at their comics trying to grasp and idea of what level of quality attracts views and good ratings. I considered that perhaps it would be a good idea to maybe ask said community that I'm going to be working with what are some of the things that you do/don't like about comics, things that you enjoy about the story, thoughts an pricing and anything else that comes to mind when creating comics is concerned.

Here's my litmus test: suspension of disbelief, or how much is required. For stories like Goldenmaster's 'First Contact' series, which I love, that threshold is pretty low. It's all alien worlds with dickgirls and whatever, let the fucking commence. But, for stories that are supposed to take place in our world, the threshold for suspension of disbelief is a lot higher for me. Stepmom and stepson? Neighbors that barely know each other? Roommates? They can't just start fucking. I need to see that segue where they cross that line, agreeably, and I have to believe it. For me in those scenarios, the antagonist has to make a convincing argument to get laid, or else you lose me.

Now, stories about first dates, BF/GF or husband/wife sex, things like that...obviously that barrier has already been crossed. I don't need convincing to believe the storyline. That kind of story is also kind of boring. We know what's going to happen, and we just click through to get to the moneyshot. For me, it's not just the art, it's the story. Draw me in. Make me want to keep reading. I like to play around with creative writing, usually involving sex. As much as I like to write the sex stuff, I enjoy writing the interactions in between a lot more. To my eyes, that's that part that makes a story. Sex is just the icing on the cake, no pun intended.

What kind of stories and comics do I loathe? Well...monster sex, rape fantasies, gore, old man/young woman imagery...anything that contrasts beauty with ugliness. That's not a turn on at all, no matter how good the story might be, but I won't know because I won't read it. But...make what you love first, and what you think will sell second. If it's not fun to build, it's just work, and work sucks.

Here's my 2 cents.

If you are interested in what viewers are seeking in comics, the gallery provides a pretty good insight.  Look at the posted images that generate the most views, highest ratings and most comments or the artists with the largest number of views/likes.  The Gallery provides tools for ranking such things.

matt - I agree, the story line normally is very important. I think this is a fact that I get hung up on often, which leads me to stop working on the piece. The more fantastical the story is, then the less the writer has to convince me that it makes sense, yet another point that I tend to get hung up on. "Does it make sense?" "Are they moving too fast for a relationship?" "But in the real world, that doesn't make sense...." etc. And yes, making what I love should be a priority, I just want to make sure it gets seen. I consider that this platform in itself may or may not be the right place for me every time I consider posting something. I'll figure it out at some point.

Blir -  I should have gone there first. I went into the catalog and checked out the comics to see which ones were selling the best and what kind of ratings they had. Gallery is free (to the best of my knowledge) so more people would be there. (Insert modern problems require modern solutions meme)
