Sorry for the vague subject heading but as it says I'm very new to this and honestly not sure what I'm doing.  I've tried looking around for information but I seem to get more confused so was after any tips on good tutorials or videos that might be useful.

A main question I have is in regards to characters interacting during sex.  I read somewhere that different models cant interact with each other, like say Genesis 3 and a Genesis 8 figure.  Is there anything else I need to know, like which figures can interact with each other such as veronica/genesis etc.  Are Genesis 8 and 8.1 compatible.  Is there a way to make different figures compatible.   And do specific genitals work better with specific figures or are they all just fine.

Any help that would make things quicker and easier to create for erotic scenes would be appreciated.  I have many questions but this one will be plenty at the moment as its the biggest hurdle for me.  Thanks again for any help.  I appreciate it.

All figures can interact with each other, the thing is that if you apply a Genesis 8 pose to a Genesis 3 figure, it will look incorrect, because the rigging/default pose is different. You would need to manually adjust the arms and legs. You could also get a pose converter from one figure to the other. I can't give you a link, but Google will tell you.

Even when using poses for the figure they were designed may require minor adjustment depending on how different the character is from the base figure.

Genesis 8.1 is still Genesis 8 with some minor updates. Content for 8 is compatible with 8.1, except some expressions because the facial rigging is different. Going backwards is more complicated. Genesis 8 doesn't include 8.1's UVs for example. So the ideal workflow is to just use 8.1

Genitals have to be used with the figure they were designed for. Which works better is a matter of taste and needs. I like the default DAZ genitals, but for erotic content, I think the standard is Dicktator for male figures and Golden Palace for female figures.

Whatever other questions you may have, feel free to ask! We are here to help.

I've never heard of characters being incompatible in a render. There may be difficulties making clothing designed for one character fit another, but it can be done with a little perseverance.

As far as getting started goes, pick a rendering/posing platform -- DAZ or Poser are the most popular -- and then start building your library of scenes, props, characters, hair, clothing, light sets, etc that are compatible with the platform you've chosen. I can guarantee that your library will grow, so think about how to organize it so that you can find stuff. I shudder to think about how much money I've spent over the years on this hobby. Be patient and shop the sales. My rule is to never buy anything unless it's on sale for more than 30% off. There are often sales in November (Black Friday) and at the end of the year.

For example, I use Poser for my renders. I have separate libraries for characters, props, scenes, clothing, hair. I use Paintshop Pro for post render work. Comic Life is a really useful program for assembling a collection of images into comics and then exporting the comic to various formats, like pdf files or jpegs. Both Paintshop Pro and Comic Life are inexpensive programs well worth it in my opinion, although there are lots of alternatives. Just think about what your workflow looks like and what you want to do with your images.

Recognize that whatever platform and supporting programs you choose, there is a learning curve. Be patient and have fun.

Your original post implies you plan to use Genesis figures. Be aware the last generation of figures compatible with Poser was 4 released in 2006. We are currently at 8.1. No Genesis figure or content is compatible with Poser.

DAZ Studio comes with a 96-page .pdf manual and several in-program tutorials. Read the manual cover to cover, it covers the basics. Perform those tutorials. They are titled Dragon Slayer, Fiery Genesis, and Genesis 2 Barefoot Dancer. You'll find them under DAZ Studio Formats / My DAZ 3D Library / DAZ Studio Tutorials. That should get you started.

That's incorrect. Any character can interact with any other, if that wouldn't be the case then figures also wouldn't be able to interact with props (to give a simple example).

Basically all items in Daz Studio are backwards compatible. Meaning that clothes meant for Genesis (the first generation) can also be applied on later versions (Genesis 2, 3 and 8). This also applies to poses but.. this also depends on context; some are better suited than others.

As to anatomy...  My advice is to ignore the Daz Pro bundles if all you're after is genitalia because although their extensions are somewhat decent they're not really worth it. The main problem is that not every character will have the proper textures for it, it heavily depends. So if you own, say, the genitalia for Genesis 2 females then there's no guarantee that you'll also be able to use them. So for stuff like that you're better off checking out some of the solutions provided on sites like this one.

Hope this can help.

The "forwards" compatibility relies on the presence of clone shapes for the later figures and a system known as Auto-Fit. It works quite well, but forget it with shoes that have anything other than flat soles. There are also a series of plugins by RiverSoft Art that can be used to convert clothing/hair between generations. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that you can usually use most (but not all) clothing/hair from earlier to later generations. Going back the other way is also possible using this method but iirc those clone shapes are not included by default (though they can be purchased).

Poses can have problems between generations, because the default figure pose changes from "T" to "A" after Genesis 3. Again, there are tools to fix this.

If you're starting out from scratch, go for Genesis 8 and stick with it. It's very well supported here.

Thanks heaps for all the help, you're all glorious. Usually the best I can hope for is 1 post reply but you lot are next level. I'm messing with Daz at the moment, have looked at poser but decided to try and learn one thing before I break myself with multiple things. I use paintshop pro, glorious program. As far as poses being an issue, I think I can navigate that manually at my current base level skill so shouldnt be an issue. I'll look into all the other programs listed. Thanks again.

If theres any sneaky info regarding how to make short animated scenes easier, I'd also be interested in this too.
