So I know that a lot of products have an extended/interactive license here and on the Daz site. But the issue arises when some of the products don't have one. I've noticed that a lot of the ones here don't have one. And while I'm sure that I could just inbox each artist directly and ask a question/check the readme files, what if they're not an artist anymore/the readme files don't contain information pertaining to this? This happened with the artist InTheFlesh. By the time I discovered his/her/their content, they had long since disappeared off the internet. This also happened with g545, I purchased the milking machine, freaking loved it, but noticed that the readme file doesn't contain anything concerning rights to using it, and by the looks of their storefront, they haven't been in business for a while. And there's a LOT of stuff here that's really good here that you can't find anywhere else. I'd hate to find out that I can't use the stuff that's here and have to try and find alternatives on other sites that aren't as good of quality. I know that I saw another forum where someone stated that if we didn't see one, then we could contact the Renderotica support and they'd reach out to the artist. My fear is for if they choose to say no.

For the most part, artists that have placed stuff up, esp older artists have under the intent that content was being used for art/animation purposes in Studio or Poser. The gaming craze for 3d content is more or so recent with the advances of Unreal and Unity becoming more widely obtainable/cost effective by the public, to create and sell their games. The extended license is for that reason since it places the IP of the artist in a downloadable/redistributed way. Before the upswing in market for 3d game content, the content was used for 3d rendering art, and animation. So older models from older users, who may or may not be here anymore whether by choice or by fate, might not want or be able to grant usage license in this way. It sucks, sometimes, but, the best way is to try and contact the content artist, the worst that can happen is they say no. But you'll never know until you ask. If you reach the outcome to where the artist is unobtainable in contact, you can still use the stuff purchased in the way it was intended, for 3d renders and animation and have those in your game, without it violating the terms from purchase, unless otherwise stated in the user agreement. (I say that because stuff you get off some free sites, have non-commercial use clauses)

For newer models, most of us vendors are content creators, making an extended license is another product, and it sometimes isn't on our minds when making content and placing it in the store, whether to market it with an extended license. We put up our creation then start the next project. I can't speak for everyone here, just from my perspective as a vendor. Some don't want their products used for more than just the art/animation stuff because of the whole redistribution fiasco that comes with it, where models can be ripped from games, ect. It is up to the content creator, their IP. Some are ok some are not with it.

When I contacted the support on Daz, they said that even animations have to be flat 2D animations. They said that if the animations or videos or 3D, then I'd still need the extended license. Is that true?

If it is an animation video you make it is ok, if it is the files then yes you need the extended license, if the product is going into the game, as the way it is made, you need the license. If it is a video for like a cut scene, then no.

Say you render an animation of g8f running, save it as mp4 video, the mp4 video is fine,

if you are talking about using the .bvh file in game then ya need the license.

Thank you both so much! I really appreciate the feedback, it cleared a lot of things up for me. I recently contact one of the artist in question and they told me I could use it as I pleased, they were super chill! While I'm sure that it's not always going to be that way, I'm just glad that I'm able to contact the artist directly to get clarification from them and respect the art that they made and how they wanted it used.  (Run-on sentence and I'm sorry)
