I recently bought a model from a site (starts with T and ends with a D) because I looked high and low on DAZ, *deleted* and the store here, and could not find what I was looking for. The store had chat, so I asked specifically if the model's elements could be rearranged, and was told yes, absolutely. I bought the model, only to find when I imported into DAZ studio, it was a single OBJ file with no textures applied and no way to select the surfaces. Also no way to separate the elements. I emailed support, told them the problem and spent en entire day trying new import options and formats, none worked. The tech people at the site kept insisting that it would work, but the model did not work at all with Daz.

Anyone else experience this, and what do people use to convert files? It was very frustrating dealing with a 3d company that seems to have little concern for Daz users, and it seems they are ignoring what could be a big market for their products.

I am presuming you received multiple formats? I also use a program called PoseRay it allows you to bring in many formats, except the big ones like max or Maya. I also use max and blender when needed to convert items that do not come in obj. PoseRay will load the obj with any and all separations in tact. for example I loaded and obj of a 1956 Chevy van into daz and it was one big object no separations not even tires. I then brought it into PoseRay resaved it as an object and daz recognized all the separate parts. Hope this helps.

Where are they??

Thanks, I'll check it out. Can you tell me what the format was that PoseRay converted it to for the import?
You would think that the "experts" at the site I mentioned would have some constructive advice on how to make a good transition to Daz, but I spent a lot of time back and forth with them unproductively.

PoseRay is for Windows, and I'm on a Mac. It seems they do not make a Mac version.

What's the name of the site please?
I had the experience a couple of years ago of buying a beautiful, ornate, luxurious, interior model from a site that appeared legitimate. I only paid around 30 bucks so I should have been suspicious. The model was available in several formats and I downloaded all of them, just in case you know? Turns out that the model had a host of texture and UV problems that kept the materials from loading. All materials where also in some Asian language (Chinese?). The model was obviously one of the thousands of stolen models that have been hacked in Asia somewhere (China?) and have been floating around torrent sites for ages. Whoever converted them in 3DSMax didn't know enough to do it properly (some sweatshop somewhere) so while the basic mesh was fine, it was just one big mesh and none of the materials worked. These sleaze bags will tell you anything you want to hear but they don't really care once they have your money, and if you accuse them of selling hacked or stolen models they'll scream bloody murder at you.
If you used a CC or Paypal they'll refund your money.

It's a reputable place. *deleted*. They have 24 hour support, and they were polite and tried to help. Just ineffectual. They offered to refund my money when all of their attempts failed. I'm just disappointed as this was my first purchase and it went sideways

Was there an option to download in fbx format, because I've found that usually works in Studio.

If obj is the only option then I'll open it up in Blender (which is nice and free) then either export the individual pieces or as fbx.

I tried the FBX, it came in invisible with no mesh. I tried all the formats. I'll try blender, thanks
