Be careful with your image filters folks

Hi All,
I was just browsing the gallery and decided to click on one of the images that I had filtered to block, (the name of the image was just too enticing so I took a chance). The image didn't have any subject matter that I had blocked in my own filter settings. I looked at the filters the poster had used and it looks like they checked all the orientation boxes: lesbian, gay, hetero, trans, etc.
Clearly this is image I saw was not in any of the categories I filter out and I think it's a shame for the artist because some viewers might be missing out on their fine artwork.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the filters are for viewers to "weed out" rather include? I might be saying or articulating this wrong.

I think they are for weeding out rather than including. Most telling are the first two sliders for violence level and ooze/icky factor.
In theory Admins would go editing/warning/deleting/blocking people over wrong labels. Some might want mild bondage and have guro snuff or something and freak out.
"Any unknown goo or ooze" puts it a bit high like mid-range... Then again, food erotica grosses me out - but I'm not whining they add anohter tag...not a Snowflake.

I have always thought that the filters were about what might appeal. It is the viewer that filters out any with (say) hetero, isn't it. If an image has no specific alignment I would normally have ticked all the boxes.

I'm not sure (because I set my personal preferences a long time ago), but I think that user preferences (set on the left side of the screen in the gallery) are set to view everything by default. If you don't want to see something, you uncheck it. Whatever you uncheck will show up as a filtered logo in the gallery, based on the filters that users check when they upload an image. So if you upload an image and check all the preferences, there is a chance that an image I would normally look will be missed based on what you checked when you uploaded an image. Say I filter out trans, but you uploaded an image of a solo woman and you checked all the filters including trans, then I will not see the image.
So think of the upload image filters you check as "warning, this image contains"...when it comes to ickyness, violence and sexual preferences. Use the keywords to enter things you want to entice people to search for.

Sometimes if there is a major site upgrade there nis a chance that the filters might be altered to all checked or all unchecked. I know this happened once because Andrew mentioned it to me when I was a Gallery mod
I have all my filters set so that I see everything. I used to not want to see gay images but there are some awesom hay artist and although the subject matter might not appeal to me, I do enjoy the quality of the image.

I used to have mine set to see everything. Then one day out of the blue a couple years ago, some images were filtered. How that happened I have no idea because I never changed anything. It's still not right. I sent two notices about it a while back and nothing. It doesn't bother me too much, If you click the image you can still see it. It's just a slight annoyance as I look at images based on the thumbnail.

I think that since Andrews Passing the folks in charge are doing the best they can.. Things like filter not being checked or monitored is the least of their worries. Lets cut them some slack. The site has not folded so they are doing something right and I can overlook a few unwanted images that doi not match the filters or are not shown in the thumbnail

Now very confused. Is this about the filters I add when submitting a picture, or those I wish as personal preferences?

@mjw, When submitting an image. If you click on all the sexual preferences when submitting, then anybody who filters those out on their personal preferences won't see your image.

It really is about both. When you post an image you need to check the boxes that apply to your image.
If I posted an image with a chick with a dick, then I must check the box that says Transgender. This way, if someone comes to the gallery and does not like chicks with dicks he can click on the box that say transgender and he will not see the image.
if everybody followed the posting rules we would not have this problem..
