Renderotica Community,

The membership database of a site similar to this one has been compromised. User names and passwords were obtained. If you use the same user name and password combination on other sites similar to this one that you use here, we highly recommend updating your passwords. Since they have user names and passwords, I would assume they have email addresses as well.

Let me be clear, our membership database was not compromised. The list was obtained from another site similar to this one. If you do not use the same user name and password combination on other sites similar to this one, your account is not affected.

Again, there has been no breech of our services or data beyond the compromised user names and passwords coming from the other site.

We apologize for this inconvenience to our users. We have taken every precaution to protect you and your accounts. We have notified the site(s) where the user list and passwords came from.

Finally, we will not be naming which site was compromised. It is possible for anyone, no matter their efforts, to be compromised by determined hackers. The administrators of the possibly affected site(s) have been notifed. And we have shared all the information we can.

Thank you

Head's up appreciated, but could you be a bit more direct than "site similar to this one"? Do you mean sites like Rendo or Daz? Porn and adult goods sites?

Unfortunately we cannot be more specific. The best thing you can do is update your passwords on any other sites similar to this one (and on this one as well if you use the same user name and password combo on one of those similar sites).

Can you at least say if this is related to the same thing that Daz was talking about a few weeks back and advised us all to change our passwords?

Can you at least confirm that it was both CGbytes and Renderotica that was not compromised?

We can confirm that neither CGbytes nor Renderotica were compromised (as if one was the other would be as well as your login goes for both sites)

As for similar sites:  ANY SITE you are registered to that has either the same username or password as you have / had here,  we can't get anymore specific then that without trying to name every possible site on the web.  so IF you use the same login name or password on multiple sites, you should change them to be safe (and honestly you should always use diff passwords for each site you're registered to,  as much of a pain in the ass that might be, it is the best way to keep yourself safe online)

Thanks, it's just kinda confusing to be told "somebody got hack, but it's not us, but you should change your password here... but we won't tell you who got hacked."

But we do appreciate being given a head's up.

I agree with Snarlthewerewolf, I appreciate the heads- up but it’s of little use to me. It’s like me saying that I also know of another site sort of like this one that has been compromised but I can’t say which one.
The advice on password security is always worthwhile though so thanks.

I think if one is concerned about a particular site where you purchase items and if the same passwords are used as those of Rotica / cgbytes site, then go to the site and review the forums,  those sites should post some sort of notice or send you an email in regards to this matter. Especially if they have been given a heads up and if they don't.... save yourself some grief and as mentioned change your username and or password.

What happened there? I must have missed it completely.

That's just it, what particular site?

It's like saying "One of your cards in your wallet had its information stolen. It wasn't us, your AmEx card, but we can't tell you what card it is. But if you ever use a card when you do certain things, then you should cancel all the ones that you use when you do certain things and get new ones."

Is it my Visa card? My ATM card? My Subway stamp card? My gym membership card?

Look...   I shop at Renderosity but lately my purchases there are anywhere except here have been curtailed as I find the older V-4 base items just not getting that much attention. But went there yesterday and checked out the forums   Nothing there .. YET!!

But I went ahead and changed ny password anyway..   I did this because a few years back Rosity was breached and we did not find out about it for 2 months  and my credit card was hacked and used...  but the shit for brains who had my data went to best buy and tried to buy a $1000 TV  and my card alerted me as I have a Transaction limit.and we blocked the sale.  and they got me a new credit card..   But every since then I use PAY PAL there.

How long does it take to change a password???   If you shop at a store front that sells items like we do or just post art..  take a moment and alter your password.

I have ID Theft protection  I get alerted to fraud and dark web activity.. I also have Kaperski Virus protection and they offer a special added layer of protection when I shop online.. However even with all that I change my password on occasions or when I get an alert  It's not so much about the card transactions,  it's about them having your name. address & phone number and that's the 1st step towards them using your data for ID Theft.

If it is the one I think I have had many problems with them over time. I only use a prepaid gift card for any purchase there as three different times I have made a purchase and within 5 days my credit card info had been stolen and used elsewhere... This required me to cancel the card and get a replacement. After three times it was easier to get a small gift card to use there.

Could you PM me with the details? My username and PW here are unique, so I'm not worried about a compromise, but I'm curious which site it is, if it's the one I'm thinking of, I've had problems, too.

It's Renderosity. They've been compromised multiple times over the years. Daz has as well.

The people who end up getting burned are the ones that pay directly with a credit card vs. paying via paypal.

O.K., so you seem to know that a certain site was targeted. How is it that you knew before the affected site knew? And have they made this information available to its members, or would that be too much to expect? I haven't received anything from any of the sites I use saying anything about an attack, especially a successful one.

Could you provide a link to this thread? I don't spend a lot of time in DAZ's forums, so it's quite possible for me not to have known about it, and now I can't find anything there referencing this. Thanks in advance...

LATER: O.K., I did find this thread (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/323101/warning-to-all-paypal-users), but this was related to someone getting a phone call from a scammer, not anything related to a site being compromised. Is this what you were referring to?

Hmm. I've been using 'Rosity for almost 20 years, never had an issue that I knew of from them. I have had cards hacked, and I buy from them, here, and DAZ several times a week, so I really can't say for sure. I'll be sure to change my PW over there. Thanks, Snarl.

I was referring to Drafter69's post. I'm assuming he's referring to Rendo as it's been hacked a few times and multiple times I've seen people post on other 3D boards about it. Again, it's always linked to people using their Credit Card to pay for the product, instead of going through PayPal and paying via them.

I'm having trouble locating the exact post, because there were multiple threads around the same time in April of this year with many people complaining they couldn't log in and being told that malware was found on their computer.

I found one of those threads, https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/322621/can-t-login-to-make-purchase
