Does anyone know a source for historically accurate sexual and anatomical slang?
I'm particularly interested in the Wild West period, but there must be ways language has evolved. It's jarring to have modern terms appear in a historical setting.
Even in modern times, terms vary between countries, but it's easier to find them. I recently had to check before an Australian girl referred to her Boobs.

There is Meriam Webster publication called "The Slang of Sin." It has a chapter on Sex, but with specific references to the old west, not much.

General Victorian era slang should work. I’m sure there were some specifics to the west in general but baps, bouncers, and jubblies should work for boobs.
i highly recommend the Flashman books by George MacDonald Frazier. He was meticulous with his research. The books contain more than enough period sexual slang and a good fun. Note, they are the furthest thing from PC there is so skip if you offend easily. Edited by user Tuesday, December 17, 2024 9:22:24 PM(UTC)

I was researching the "F-Bomb" the other day (that would be the word "fuck") and was fascinated to find that new research had pushed back its origins from the 1500s all the way to the 1200s. Interesting how that word (in, as near as we can tell) has made it all the way from there to here.
