This is an idea that I've had for a while now, but I was too nervous/unsure about actually doing something with it, so I've been sitting on it. But, considering that it's the new year and I'm trying to grow my 3d skills, figured now would be as good as ever to start this type of thread going.

The purpose of the thread would be as follows -

1) To give my personal opinion on products that I've purchased - While I could go through to each artist directly and see their content (which is what I would normally do) I just figured it'd be nice if there was a more common place in the forums where everyone could see the appreciation.

2) To give examples on how they are used in the event that others need help. I've never claimed to be a genius and I don't play one on TV. There have been numerous times where I've bought something and I'm either overlooking something or I'm just too tired to understand why it's not working, lol.

3) To give people who are considering purchasing it a chance to see how it works before buying to. I think I can speak for almost everyone when I say that we like to know what a product is like before we buy it. People do it with all forms of product or service, why should 3D content be any different? Sure there's the gallery that shows what it's like after it's been rendered, but that might not give people the full scope of how it works behind the scenes. With this thread, I'd love to give that perspective that people look for.

This last idea came from the post that I see on various sites (this one included) where it's "Have you bought this? Do you like it? Would you recommend ABC for this kind of project?"

I'm open to any feedback about this idea, but I thought it would be a neat little bit to do here on this site. There are a lot of amazing users out here and we have some great conversations when the thread line is interesting enough.

Whatdaya say?

Sounds like a plan! We should limit it to stuff on this site though. I'll do two reviews, for one new product and one old one.

First the new - Night Secret by LEONdigital. I fucking love this product! I'm usually hesitant with lingerie for several reasons. The obvious one is that I make porn. Pinups are a lot of fun - I enjoy making them, though I don't post them enough - but many (especially on Daz) don't have morphs, or they don't work well if they do. If I want to show private parts it can be aggravating to have to use Mesh Grabber or Hexagon to try and reveal their breasts or vagina. Frequently I just don't, and my models end up nude instead. Luckily, the built in morphs are simple but extremely effective. I have an issue sometimes with 'Crotch Movement' morphs that the back frequently goes into the model's ass, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Night Secret. I also love that the color can be adjusted simply by changing the base color. Too often lingerie comes in just a few normal colors, black, red, and white. I just made a picture where I changed it into seafoam green. The pattern (of which all five are aesthetically interesting) stayed the same, unlike using a shader or spending half an hour on GIMP or photoshop changing the color. That's a major plus in my book. Speaking of patterns, or more specifically their creation, the template for it is amazing. I've wanted to start making my own designs for a while, but my biggest drawback is normally the templates. Where is this area? Where is that? Sometimes it's a crapshoot. LEONdigital has made the template simple and intuitive! And because I can change the color easily (see earlier) I don't have to obsess over it. For cons, because every product has them, I'd like a few more built in morphs. The crotch can go left or right, but not down like it's being pulled. I'd like a couple different breast reveal morphs, and perhaps a 'To Floor' and halfway down one as well, like Nirvy often does. And lastly, because you can change the entire color with the base you can't change the color of different areas easily. I can't do red cups and a blue bodysuit without several trips to Hexagon to create material zones, and frankly I'm too lazy for that. These are all nitpicks, and this has almost immediately become my go to lingerie. Final rating: A-

Now the old - Facility 1 by Davo (and Freeone if you use Daz, which I do). If you like bondage and peril artwork this should be your first set. Full stop. I'm pretty sure it was one of the first things I bought on this site, and to this day I use it a lot. A lot of the Facility series perfectly encapsulates a minimalist industrial tone, which I love, and this set has a lot of things going for it. The four different presets for the facility are each unique, not being 'similar, but one small change' that many sets do. There are holding cells, and holding pits. The fuck machines are incredibly easy to assemble and pose, with a bonus for easy changing of dildos and toys. The three different devices (1 table, 2 holders - one of which is kinda rare on this site -, and 3 different transport devices) are incredibly useful, with inspired poses. And with a product like Ultimate Pose Master (from Daz, one of my favorite products as it locks the hands and feet in place) you can wiggle your characters around to find something more dynamic. Davo's cuffs are ALWAYS on point. And did I mention the material zones? Each cuff has 5 zones, so if you want to remove something (through cutout opacity) you can. and don't get me started on the devices, or anything else. The amount of times I've changed the look and feel of something because almost every single thing has a different material zone is incalculatable. Want to make a post apocalyptic scene? You can make every part look like a different metal. Want a fantasy scene? Hide the parts you don't want and make the rest look like wood. Because they're minimalistic they can easily feel like any genre with just a few clicks. You want a con? Since it was made during the Genesis 3 iteration, the poses don't work for Genesis 8. How aggravating is that? Well, Pose Converter from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 exists, and Freeone is remaking some of the sets to work with Genesis 8. It's pretty much a nonfactor. This is an amazing all-around set that everyone who makes bondage art should own. Final Rating: A+

Definitely only products on this site. If there are other sites where I want to make review threads (which I will at some point)  then I could just go to that site and do that.

But, I did take a look at Night Secret, it looks nice and it's already on my wishlist. But that's awesome to know that it's already got morphs for moving the crotch to the left or right (gotta love it) But you're absolutely right when it comes to changing the color of a product. Most times, you have to go all through the surfaces tab and make all kinds of adjustments and then take it back to GIMP and do even more work there, it's just awful. But by just changing it in the Base Color tab, that takes a lot of that extra work out of the picture.

Moving on to Davo though, almost everything they've made has been amazing! (I say almost because I haven't bought all of his products yet) But I also have that, and I love the material zones. It makes changing the color and the look of everything 100x easier. I can't tell you my suprise when I opened up the product in Daz and tried to move things around and thought to my self "There's no way I can move all of this." And then I could and I was so happy! I love artist that take the time to make everything moveable/editable. I'm willing to pay the extra dollars for them to make that happen. Not gonna lie though. Sometimes, I'll start building something, and before I know it, I'm a little discombobulated because I have so many options. It's a little nerve wracking sometimes, but it's nice to know that I have the choice of utilizing those options. There are a lot of products out in the Daz 3d world where it's a really big prop and it looks like it should have a lot of movabale parts, but then it doesn't and it's like >_>.

Thank you for sharing that! It took me a second to get back around to this cause I wanted to make sure that I'd have time to type this out. I've got quite a few products of my own that I'd like to share about it, so I'll pick one and post it here soon!

Night Secret is great, you can see it in action on my recent 'Fondling' picture! I love almost everything Davo and Freeone put out as well, and I love how easy it kitbash them all together. It can feel overwhelming sometimes though, I agree.

Can't wait for your reviews!

For my first one, I'm going with the very first thing that I purchased on this site - TaB DS G2 Core Pack v1.03e (by  Erogenesis, Laudanum) I cannot even express to you how happy I was when I first bought this. I just wasn't in the mindset of having to purchase the pro version of figures for hundreds of dollars just to have everything, so this was a perfect solution.

Pros -

  • The cost - For only $14.99, you have hundreds of possibilities for combinations for the size and look for your schlong.
  • Scrotum Detail  - Twisting it left and right, you can see the detail in the skin stretch without any additional morphs vs. Dicktator where you might have to dial in a couple of other morphs to make it look perfect.
  • The misc parameters - Some of them don't seem super useful, but they're fun to play with for varied effects! Some of them are like - UnderBulge, Viyar Cock FBM and others. But some of them are amazing to the extent that I wish Dicktator had them. Some of them are like - Cock Disel, FBM - Super Ugly, and Grungy. The scrotum  morphs are also excellent!

Cons -

  • The "shield". I couldn't ever get a post just right without that thing ruining it. More often than not it was because the coloration was wrong, but more than that, it just looked weird. Obviously at this time, I wasn't very apt at using GIMP like I am now, not I didn't think to fix it in post. However, for a new artist  this could certain pose a problem.
  • Testi movement - It's limited in terms of moving it around. It's not like Dicktator where you can move each testi via the universal tool. You can only move it so far to the left or right or up and down before you have to remove the limits from the parameter.
  • Material options  - Unlike some of the other add ons, there's no preset color/material options for various skin tones/creatures. While I'm sure that there's an easy way to change it through the surfaces tab, for newer users (or the lazy like myself) it'd be nice if there was a preset that I could use.
  • There's no anus. I've come to expect this from the amount of add ons that I've bought that come with this already. It's not so much of an issue as it is personal preference.
  • Compatibility -  I know that the one that I have is the G2 version since that's what I used to work with, but there is a G3 version, so I'm not sure if it's compatible with G8 figures or not. It would be amazing if it was, but my gut tells me that it wouldn't.

Overall, my rating for this product is a A - . It's that dern shield that got to me the most. Otherwise, this prodcut is amazing for someone who's just starting out and wants to just get their feet wet.

There are some great products here but for me the gens from 3FeetWolf, Meipe, Kaluma, Mike1954 and others are first on my list for praise, these things can't be easy to make but my artistic ambitions would be somewhat limited without the necessary bits.

I recently purchased Babblebub's Close Up Morphs for the G1F DAZ gens, they don't compare to 3FW's New Gens for real close up work but being just a set of parameters they are real easy to just dial in as needed for those less intimate shots, if you have the DAZ gens and a mat to suit. There is also a nice 'butterfly' shape I think looks great.
I'm just here by mistake, for a friend, for science... anyway you can't prove nuffin'.

Good idea for a thread but can we maybe link to the products in question?
And perhaps some example renders from your own gallery if applicable.

(I don't think we're allowed to link to external sites but within the Renderotica store and gallery should be ok, right?)

Excellent point! I thought about it, but that laziness was so hard when I made the first post. My future ones will have links and pictures.

And I'm back at it again with another review! I'm currently working on a bit that I don't really understand, but I think it's cool. So I decided to take a break from that and show off some of the other stuff that I've got in my library of goodies!

This is one of the more complex products that I've got in my library and it's the Gynecology Chair by Laudanum. This, like a lot of my other purchases, was an impulse purchase that I made on account of what I could use it for. I didn't actually have fleshed out plans for it. Although, the few times I've used it, it was a lot of fun!

Pros -

Almost everything on this prop is moveable/adjustable in some way or another. From the large lever on the back to the leg rest and the levers on the sides of it. There's even this little "rack" that sits at the front near the base. I haven't the slightest clue what that's actually for, I just know that it's there. With everything being so adjustable, this gives a lot of space for placing differently sized and shaped characters into the chair.

It comes with an array of preset poses that work with both male an female figures. That's a big thing for me, cause I use male figures far more than the female ones, so I have to be able to use things for the males the way I do the females. It's always a pain when you attempt to apply something to a male figure that was meant for a female and it ends up taking forever to get it to fit just right to the male. This product doesn't disappoint in that department, so good marks for me from there.

The surfaces tab. Oh ma goodness. All the sections of the prop are nicely labled so it's super easy to find what you want to recolor and to do so. I've bought some products from some vendors where the objects in the surfaces tab aren't labled quite as nicely, and it leads to turning opacity on an off trying to figure out what I'm messing with.

Con -

My biggest tick about this prop is similar to my favorite thing about this. There are two parts of this prop that I feel are very important that aren't moveable/adjustable. It would be the leg straps and the foot straps. I can't for the life of me get them to sit right on any figure. Most of the time, when I do consider using this for something, I will just remove the straps and the foot rest all around cause they're not maneuverable enough for me.

Otherwise, I have no complaints about this. It's an amazing product that would do well in any Dr, torture or impreg scene that you may have in mind!

Final Score --- A

I agree with everything you've said! This was a payday buy for me, something I've wanted for a long time, but not being able to adjust, or even scale, the straps immediately lowered its use! In the end of lowered my score immeasurably. I feel almost like it was a faulty purchase. My score: C+

Next review: Collar by Miki3dx. Not gonna lie, I use this product all the time. It's enough of a mainstay with my 'Princess' character that it's included on my body preset for her, not my clothing one. In fact, I named the character off of the text preset. To me, this is the best general use collar on the market. It is highly versatile, able to go between a fashion statement, a kink scene (of many different types because of all the various pendants, studs, and text), and a playful interaction seemlessly. The materials provided are epic as well! When was the last time you bought a product that had 88 different colors just for the leather? PLUS 88 plastic and 88 metal. And gemstones. That's a ton of options. And it looks great whether up close or far away. With the collar being made for both Genesis 3 and 8 - plus being fitted to both male and female - it is usable for almost any figure.

I only have three cons to the product, and two of them are quibbles so let's get them out of the way first. Quibble 1: It's not very intuitive when you first use it. The in product documentation is nice, and well put together, but it still takes a bit to realize that each of the items needs to be clicked on specifically to change the materials, and which items have gemstones. After your first or second time this is never an issue again. Quibble 2: I do a lot of bondage/rape fantasy scenes, and I wish there was a preset for the pendants to go around all four corners of the collar. This is an entirely subjective quibble, because I'm lazy.

The only truly aggravating thing is the lack of an alphabet to make your own words. Let's be honest, the text is frequently the best part of the collar. An image is worth a thousand words, and if your image includes a collar that says 'breed me' it's worth even more. It's definitely telling that the forum post for sharing presets is instead filled with questions about creating your own text, and it's a shame noone (including myself) posted their own presets. I know this would be incredibly hard to code for it to be automatically placed, and I would never expect it. A simple alphabet that we could move and place ourselves would be nice though.

That being said, Miki3dx has 5 products in their library that aren't comics. I already own two and am waiting to start work again so I can get the other three. They put a TREMENDOUS amount of work into every item, and it shows. Final rating: A

You stole the prop straight from my libray! This was the next one that I was going to do, but I really like this cause it's so versatile. I haven't truly found anything that's wrong with it or anything that I'd change to make it better. I won't lie though, I don't use it very often. It's just that there's so much that you can do with it. When I try to incorporate it into a project, I feel kind of overwhelmed and I end up using a much simpler collar instead. However, I didn't know that you couldn't put your own text on it. The text really does steal the show. HOWEVER, there is an alternative if you're interested. It's a Scifi collar that has digital text that you can edit in the textures pane. I beleive that it's actually meant for Poser, but it should work in Daz as well.

My rating for this product would be an A as well.

Ha!

It's understandable to be overwhelmed by it, it has a ton of options. I sometimes use simple collars as well (or different collars for different feelsl, like the Davo Collar). What sci-fi one are you talking about? You can message me if neccessary, and in the future I'll message it to anyone that asks. Can't wait for the next review, by you or anyone else!
