Competition is a wonderful thing. It forces sellers to constantly up their game in an attempt to figure out what motivates consumers to part with a dollar and buy their products. There are an endless variety of marketing models, as well.
Remember when cell phones were free and marketed to consumers based on a model that tethered consumers to a particular carrier and its products? Then, some time in the mists of the Stone Age, Sprint started charging for cell phones and now everyone thinks nothing of shelling out big $$$ to buy the latest and greatest piece of hardware.
Something similar is going on in computer rendered art. One marketing model is a free render platform (DAZ) the other is not (Poser). Vendors are feeling about for what consumers want and trying to predict what will be successful.
While I don't sell my work, I gauge consumer sentiment by the number of views, likes and comments. Often, the images that I worked hardest on were flops and the ones that I just assembled in passing were hits with viewers. Davo mentioned that his DAZ sales exceed his Poser sales; that's his measure of consumer sentiment that is probably a pretty damn accurate assessment of where the market is headed -- today.
In my view, one of the worst things that could happen is for either DAZ or Poser to exit the market, leaving consumers at the mercy of a monopoly that no longer feels the need to satisfy consumers.

As mentioned, there will always be competition.. I think "R" found an opportunity by buying Smith Micro's Poser. But unlike SM, the "R" site seems to only concern themselves with the P-11 version that was available when purchased and the more recent P12. They have no concern for Poser Pro 14 product users and is evident when I turn on my software and am given a notice that there is no longer a security certificate for the software.
Another reason I will not support P 12 With my library so vast I make few purchases, Tho I am always in the market for Male figure textures for M4 and also my fav Rotica Vendor DAVO and all his kinky toys
Ass mentioned the writing is on th wall as who is creating the best base figures but I would really like to know is how the sales are progressing for the latest Poser software and if there will ever be a P13.. and without a decent Base figure that surpasses la Femme bya huge longshot I am not sure there will be.
I'll just plunk around with my poser pro 14 and when in the move crank out a story or two..
have fun ladies and gent and happy rendering

I use "La Femme", I also use "Roxy" "Judy", and "Sidney". Heck, I'll even use Daz3D Victoria versions 2, 3, and 4. Admittedly, I've only come lately to using the Firefly and Superfly rendering engines (most of my renders are in Vue), but I've given them a go.
I guess for me it's been what I can do to morph the base figure to match a vision I have or to match someone who wants me to create a model of them. For Poser these days that's mainly "Face Room" compatible figures.
The other thing is that I have to be able to export whatever I do and import it into Vue, because that's my preferred renderer...
