Does DAZ Studio support booleans and clipping planes? I had the idea of using one to basically cleave a figure down the middle, but don't know if this is actually possible, and if it is, I don't know how to do it.

If this is possible, does anyone know how to do it, or are there any products available that add this functionality to DS?

Thanks...

Not really by default. There IS a product "gescon-constructive-solid-geometry-for-daz-studio" sku 81368 for sale at Daz but I cant speak to its effectiveness personally.

Other options of interest might be.

Iray Section Node - https://youtu.be/EkpITquM220

Geometry Editor - Hides Visibilty or Edit Deletes Geometry https://youtu.be/mgQt93arkcE

Depending on the complexity of the total geometry(s) being hidden a Cutout Map Shader May be useful.

Again depending on the scene complexity exporting to Blender for editing and reimporting as simple obj prop could be an option as well.

Thank you for the reply.

I had forgotten about the Gescon product -- even tho' it's on my wish-list -- and it's probably what got me thinking about this.

I download every episode that the WPGuru puts out, but I'm only part-way through watching them so far. There's quite a few channels related to DS that I follow, and quite a lot of content to wade through.

I'm also learning how to use the Geometry Editor, so yeah, that is an option.

A cut-out shader -- I don't think I've heard that term before, but that pretty much perfectly describes what I'm going for. I will have to look into that.

I was trying to avoid the hassle of exporting to an external program like Hexagon (which I have, but don't use) or Blender (which I do use), modifying the mesh, and then importing back to DS, but that probably is what will end up happening, anyways.

Later...

Technically I guess it'd be refered to as an oppacity map. In older items its oppacity value and in newer uber base in the surface geometry theres a value called cutout and you should be able to put a monochrome or black and white image and dial the value to ignore the surface making the mapped area invisible. Useful if you want a jagged or unclean cut. Im not sure if this can also be combined with a L.I.E. layer where you're needing like a blood effect, but a geoshell with fx layer could likely be used as well if thats the case.
