This is my otherwise uneventful birthday. I celebrated by upgrading my PC. I installed an AMD Ryzen 5 5000 CPU on a Gigabyte B550M M-board with a new MSI RTX 3050 G-card. Things went swimmingly, although I did have some trouble ensuring that the power supply cables went where they should. The first problem was, surprisingly, my Windows 10 OS. I had to activate it again. A change of hardware demands a new activation, a requirement I had encountered before but forgot. That done, to my immense satisfaction, everything worked like a charm. CPU, board, and card are all performing like champions. I was expecting to have to re-install the OS and all my software, but NO. Everything is working just as it did before the upgrades. After activation, I was sailing. Then Microsoft decided that I had to use a Microsoft Account to log in to my PC; I had to change that to a local account because that's what I wanted. Yipes! Microsoft doesn't exactly smooth the path. I think, finally, that all is as it should be. My new CPU, my new board, my new card, and the local account I want! I'm a happy camper at last!
Cheers to all. And to all a good night. Live long and render

Happy Birthday! And congratulations on the upgrade! Glad everything's working fine! Lighting the way to the dark side

Thank you so much, casualgrapher. I'm no techie, and I'm not a nerd. Getting it all working properly was a challenge. For "challenge," read "nerve-racking." But it's done, and I'm glad it's done at last.

I will add that the MSI RTX 3050 graphics card works a treat! Visibly quicker renders than those done with the previous GTX 1650. And I'll venture to suggest that the quality is better as well. Edited by user Thursday, October 6, 2022 3:33:50 PM(UTC)
