Hi Raven,
I admire your intentions, if you have a pulse you have fantasies right.
Easy to pick up?... Yes, no, err maybe... a lot depends on your attitude to technical things and your determination to visualise those thoughts.
I would suggest DAZ Studio, it's free and you can dabble to see if you take to it before spending on content.
DS is a great tool and you can get quite impressive results in minutes right out of the box but... don't let me put you off here... if you are trying to recreate a specific subject and are particular about looks there are many things to learn.
Figures have many morphs (adjustable shapes) to dabble with and there are tools available to help create specific looks and much content such as hair styles and clothing to soak up your spare cash but if you are after very specific looks some modelling may be required, DS does not do that.
Blender is another very capable free tool but another steep learning curve.
My advice would be to dabble with DS and see what you think then, if you have the budget for it, pay someone to create the characters while you focus on learning how to pose, compose, light and render.
Creating characters though would be a challenge without photo refs, over to you how you handle that one.
I'm just here by mistake, for a friend, for science... anyway you can't prove nuffin'.
