Well from my point of view the product is very good documented but it can be hard to get used to it initially maybe. Also the amount of options - especially if you use the various add-ones like lassie or easy rider - can be a little overwhelming at the beginning.
Just have the following in mind:
Applying the product:
Select G8F, apply the gens and do the mat copy.
Now you have gens which should fit your character color wise although you probable get an evenly distributed color which is not that real looking.
All further color adjustment is done via the shell.
Select G8F and apply the shell. This might look weird at the start cause there is no color injected to the shell.
So then use the folder with the iray material and apply one of the 4 presets or choose your own color (you have to click apply to shell for the color to be used).
If you want more variations I strongly recommend the Texture Wizard add-on which adds several options plus a huge amount of color presets for G3M and G8M characters. It also holds presets for G3F and G8F which can be used with Futalicious.
If available always use the Choose selector links in the content library as those make sure that the proper node is selected in your scene.
Ultimately if you have more then one shell in your scene things can get complicated as not all shells could be transparent. But for that there is a “Shell fix” link included which fixes things once applied to each individual shell in the scene.
Also if you might want to participate in fixes (one cannot do geo craft add on which fits to each character and all kind of figure morphs) early on I recommend subscribing to Meipes Pa-tre-on (without dashes) where you can ask for fixes or get some additional morphs before they are packed into a dedicated product update.
There are other gens (like the DAZ default, the one from Laudanum or dbxxx) you could try out as well. I myself use the default gens or Laudanums also depending on the setting.
