Hello All,

I recently downloaded Daz3d and wanted to try and learn how to do some modeling. However it was only post install that I learned that Nvidia Iray only works with Nvidia cards. Since i'm on an AMD card it seems like Daz is just unusable. I could only use CPU which would take forever and a day to do just the introductory sample renders in Daz.

Is ProRender an option for me? When it comes to using different models here on Renderotica anyhow.

Thanks,

Wilson

Have you tried using 3Delight? It's also built into Studio, it's just not the default render engine. To change it, open your render settings, and at the top there should be a dropdown that says 'engine'. Click it, and select 3Delight. A lot of vendors still provide 3Delight texture options for their characters, so this might work for you. I have no experience with ProRender, so I can't weigh in on that.

Even if you don't have an Nvidia card you can still use Iray fine, you just don't get benefit of using the GPU to quicken rendering (And even if you do depending on complexity of the scene if your scene exceeds the RAM on the GPU, it pushes to CPU rendering anyway) and as Matt said there is 3Delight built in which if you have the right knowledge and shaders you can produce images as good as Iray (Though again depending on settings 3Delight can take some time to render) there are also some external render options available like Octane and Lux Render with the proper plug-ins (though I will point out that officially Lux Render is obsolete and been replaced by Lux Core, and one of the Lux plug-ins, Reality has been released as open source software, but so far there hasn't been a Lux Core plug in made) Reality if I recall correctly can use GPU on ATI/AMD cards but I don't know if it speeds up Lux Render like Nvidia cards can with Iray. As to ProRender to my knowledge there isn't a bridge plug in for it so I'm not even sure if you could even use a Daz Studio scene in ProRender

You can use Iray even if you don't have an nVidia graphics card. It just means that you'll have to use the CPU to render the image, which will be slower (usually a LOT slower) and may even bog down your machine, depending on its specs.

And 3Delight is still fine to render with. You can use the version built-in to DAZ Studio, or you can go the 3Delight website and download the latest release, which includes a stand-alone renderer. This lets you compose your scenes in DAZ Studio and then pre-compile them into a scene file which the stand-alone renderer can work with. The benefit of this is that if frees up DAZ Studio, so that you can continue to do other things while the stand-alone renderer is doing its thing.

If you do decide to go with 3Delight, learn how to use Omnifreaker's UberSurface Shader and Age of Armour's Subsurface Shader Base (both of which are included with DAZ Studio). They're the two best tools I know of for working in 3Delight.

Good luck...
