Hi All,

Way back when I started with Poser, I learned about all the system setting based on my PC and worked it all out accordingly.

Now I have a new PC and have reinstalled Poser, and the render I recently did took forever. I was expecting it to render quickly.

Of course, I forgot to alter the default settings:

My Number of Threads is currently at 24 (separate process not checked)

Texture caching persistent size is 500MB (run in background thread checked)

I really can't remember anything about settings. Any advice? Threads too high, drop to 12?

My CPU is: AMD Ryzen9 3900X 12-core, 4100Mhz, 24 logical processors

RAM: 32GB

GPU: nVidia GeForce RTC 2070 Super  (This doesn't work for Superfly!!!! Allegedly fixed for Poser 11.3)

Any advice greatly appreciated.

For my 8 core I usually use 12 or 14 threads but mostly because I have other stuff running in the background. As far as I found out using all cores, including hyper-threading, does not cause any problems.

What version of Poser are you using? If it is an older 32-bit version… you wont get happy with it.

What render setting do you use? Firefly or Superfly?

With Firefly raytrace bounces, irradiance catching and shading rate have a huge impact on rendertime. Interlaced transparencies, especially if there are additionally reflections and atmosphere, can have extreme effects on the rendertime. In my case just adding a few trees with transparencies based leaves increased the rendertime from a few minutest to more than half an hour.

With Superfly it is Pixel Samples. If you have to use the CPU for Superfly anyway use Branched Path Tracing.

Running Poser Pro 11.2

Using firefly. Just feels like it's rendering slower than my old PC
