This pic is just a little too dark to make details out, but perhaps soon the girls will be let out into the bright light of day, only to find that it's worse there than in the hold ...

Yes - the dark ambiance was the idea. Only a trickle of light to filter through the wooden grate above their heads as a reminder that they were still alive. The ships space hold is dark and dingy but the auction blocks of North Africa are bright and hot!
