Alien Invasion Contest, 2009: Discussion

This is a heads-up thread for everyone. I am planning on having the annual Alien Invasion contest next month. I am thinking it will be early, maybe starting on the first Friday of the month, and will run for two weeks as usual. This will give y'all time to get started now if you want to. I will post the rules when I can with the official start/end times on it as well.

let me know if y'all have any questions or concerns.

I planned on posting some rules or some such, but my annual sinus explosion picked this set of days off to happen, so I have pretty much been bed-ridden the last two days. I'll try to have something more concrete for you soon, but my tentative start date will prolly be in two weeks on Friday, 2 April.

I'm looking forward to this years Alien Invasion. Sci-Fi is one of my favorite subjects and I love seeing what people come up with. :)

Other than the idol contest...the alien contest is by far the most popular. I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure many others are.

Looks great. Is the Alien sneaking up on him or is he shooting at it? If it's crawling down the side of the building behind him then it's much scarier. I'd switch to a blue spotlight and make this a night scene for extra creepyness.

As in keeping with the movie, the guy in the pic is looking in entirly the wrong direction. He isn't shooting, that's a laser sight.

Hey Y'all. I don't normally push products for contests, but if you are having trouble finding good aliens to use, remember that both Davo and DeepSpace3D have relatively inexpensive alien critters in our own shop. They are in no way required for the contest, but I thought I might point y'all in that direction if you are stumped for an image. Me, of course, I have loads and loads of creepy alien creatures... Prolly says something about my deviant mentality...

Just a few more touches and it will be ready. I'm trying to do it with as little post work as possible. The laser light flare is the only thing added so far as post work. Everything else is a model that is actually in the scene. I'll put in the details when I post the high rez version.

Go ahead and steal any of my ideas that you like. Imitation, as they say...

If I'm doing something you like or have created an effect you want to use and can't figure out how to do it just ask me. I use DAZ so if you are using Poser it will take some tweaking to get the same effect.

Has the date for the Alien Invasion contest officially been set? I recall it was tentatively supposed to start in early April but it's not listed in the Calendar. I'd hate to miss it this time, and I've already got some stuff to post. For instance, here's a taste:

Well my Space Babes are looking forward to the Alien Invasion. They love being the center of attention of diabolical uncaring aliens from the great beyond. But they are bio enhanced clones, and our scientists have made them that way.

No idea if I'll do a blob of course, but I thought I would share as a way of warming up. Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Well, I have to admit the shadow thing was a neat idea, so I will probably pinch that and use it at some point. :)

I'm also a Daz user and I kinda figure things out as I go along. No matter how crazy or ambitious the idea is in my mind, I can always recreate it in Daz Studio....somehow.

A questions for this contest and contests in general:

For posts in contests, is there any relaxation for size limits and does it still take out of your usual 25 meg gallery limit, or do the same rules apply as for non contest posts?

All contest images have the standard size settings applied. The contest galleries have the same restrictions as the Main Galleries do.
