Honestly, trying to do this 3d art work does kinda perk my curiosity. Unfortunately I don't have the pc for it. Hopefully I will soon though. The only thing that would keep me from tackling it, I think would, be my patience level... I have none. I wanna get it done now! And I read in the descriptions of some of these pics that it's taken the artist 16 friggin hours to complete it... and that's on the 'simple' ones with just one figure.
Anyway thanks for the welcome.

Well, much of the time is spent on waiting for the render engine to finish. I have a very powerful system but in CPU hours, some of then have taken over a hundred hours to finish. (In real time? About a day.)
Of course, there are quite a few artists here who create their own, additional models and objects to add to the composition. This takes time too, but in general a good artist will add those to his personal library to be re-used. I do the same with most of my models, where I keep a "Character library" from where I can just import them. And there are plenty of other time-saving tricks that you could use.
Another trick is to just ignore the areas that won't be visible in your final image. Sure, the girl's butt might poke through her pants but of you just show her front side, it just doesn't matter. (Be aware of mirrots and other reflective areas, though.)
And there's a few things that can be fixed simply by adding some post-work in PaintShopPro or PhotoShop. I hate post-work myself but still use it occasionally to fix the lights or to hide the poking ass. It's also useful to add additional splash effects to an image or to add a simple fog effect.

In general, I spend up to 4 hours on an image, doing four or five low-resolution renders just to check if things will look okay. And when I like the result, I send the image to the render queue where it will be processed while I'm working on the next image. (Or just doing something else.)

In general, I do consider it time well spent, although it does cut into my "social time". Not everyone appreciates the fact that I'm four hours behiond my computer, fully concentrated with my two displays...

Anyway, welcome here! :)

Welcome Fab!

There are some talented people here! And then you have the rest of us.

I have poser but am too intimidated to figure out how it all works. Maybe one day, but they let me lurk here anyway.

So... a 16 hour render isn't necessarily 16 hours of constant work. Hmmm... Mebee this wouldn't max out my patience meter. :P

LOL... I guess I'd fall into the second group. :D
And again thanks all for the welcome. It's looking more and more like I'll stick around.
