There has been a fair bit of conversation in the Forums about AI art and the Pros and Cons and some friendly arguments over real versus not. In the end, we at Renderotica have no opposition to people wishing to make AI generated art and post it to our Gallery. We have a Category specifically for this very reason. We are also working on enabling a preference for AI art so that people can choose whether they wish to see it or not.

In the end, it's another form of imagery and we are happy to see it in the galleries.

Due to the fact that AI generated art cannot be copyrighted, (artnews article link) we have decided to take the position of not allowing it to compete in the Render Contests. The spirit of these contests are to have artists create new, unique, original works, using their skills in Daz or Poser, to generate, compose, pose, adding materials, textures and lighting, then rendering and finishing in whatever post work software they work in. These types of Rendered images can be copyrighted and are therefore eligible to compete in our Contests.

Has the site considered setting off the AI non-protected copyright art from the rights-protected art? I know that the site has been concerned about protecting artists rights since its inception. I can imagine someone caught doing this might use the excuse that they could not tell the difference, and thought all was fair game....

We have created Categories and Preferences so that artists can mark their images as AI for the members who are looking for it. This is the only way that we can seperate the images being posted and it's completely dependant on the artist to use the proper category and preference settings when they submit the image.

Thanks, I think a further designation should be considered regarding the pirating of images. Protected and non-protected are viewed side by side and it open a door to unscupulous behavior

I can appreciate what you are saying, however, our Community Policies already state that people are not to copy images from our site. I'm afraid that "unscrupulous" people will not stop from copying and using copyrighted images just because they are in a different gallery from Non-copyrighted images in the AI Gallery. Here is the section from the Policies relating to this.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The copyright of all material (software and content) provided on the Renderotica website remains property of the original holder. Renderotica reserves the right to use images posted on this site in its day-today operations and in its promotional material. Members reserve the right to and are able to remove their contribution from the Renderotica website at any time. For areas where this is not the case, requests will be handled by the administration on a timely basis.

Any use of the material inconsistent with the terms and conditions set forth by the owner is prohibited and will be considered an infringement of the copyrights of the owner.

  • Do not post work that you do not own or have permission to use. Our moderators will pull content that we have received a valid DMCA Takedown notice for, and your account will be terminated. Renderotica will not accept any liability from litigation for any infringing content you have posted.
  • Do not post photos or photomanipulations of real people. This site is for Computer Generated images only.
  • Do not copy images from this site and post them elsewhere; it is against the law, and disrespectful to the original artist.
