Eya fellow Renderoticans!
Now, before I continue... I know that I may start to sound like a sales drone in a few moments and before you ask: no, I don't have anything going for myself with regards to Adobe stocks.
But after this evening I just couldn't help from sharing...
Say you have a nice female model you enjoy working with, the only problem: she doesn't look all that realistic between the legs. You're not really looking for sexualizing (or plain out pr0n), in other words: penetration is not on your mind at all; at best you're looking for a camel-toe kind of shot (with or without clothes), but that's it.
If you've grabbed some Daz3D Pro bundles you may have ended up with the official Genesis genitalia props. So about those?
Good news: they can be a quick and easy fix.
Bad news: not every artist bothers with these so you may very well end up with a grey'ish blub between your models legs. Only 1 shade of grey though, so definitely not what we're looking for here ;)
My suggestion?
Substance painter!
So what are we looking at here?
I fired up Daz Studio this evening, loaded one of my "young adult" female models, applied the Daz3D Genesis female genitalia and thus ended up with a girl with a gray 'blob' between her legs.
So then I exported the figure, copied the location of all the textures, and then one by one added & applied the textures so that my figure looked somewhat the same as in Daz Studio, you can see this above.
Then I got to work...
I copied the color of the textures "around" the naughty bits (so basically the "torso texture") and then started painting. Initially I gave everything the same "skin color" because I figured this would be more than fine. Then I realized that unlike previous generations this 'vagina asset' actually shows some "internal details". So I changed the base color to a more reddish look and did even more painting, you can see the result above. As you can see I didn't bother all that much with the butthole because once again, my intent here is a little bit more realism, but nothing more than that.
So, the end result?
Now before we continue I want to stress out that I'm definitely not claiming to be some semi-professional here, heck no. Notice the gray streak in the texture above?
However I hope you can agree with me that it looks natural enough. Not perfect... if you look close enough then you'll see that it doesn't have any of the 'roughness' or texture that the other areas have: this doesn't necessarily use the actual textures but rather the same colors.
It works.
But... what if it doesn't (for us)? What if we want to be that "naughty nerd" who wants to have it all... I mean, we have the textures, why can't we just re-use/apply them on another asset?
Yah, the problem with that: it sounds simple enough, but just because it sounds simple... you can't do this with Substance Painter.
...and yet we can still make this work. Which is bad news because I'm sure my example is going to make some of you go: "See that this is just WAY too simple?!!!".
ok, ok... but just because it looks ... lets just get on with it ;)
Substance Designer!
So what is happening here?
My and my dirty mind fired up Substance Designer, I started a new "graph" project then I added the "torso texture" and used the "crop node" to focus on a specific area around the "inner legs/hips", you can see what I mean above. Then I added a so called "output node" and told it that this textured output should be usable as a material / texture preset.
Then I exported my work. Went back to Substance Painter and applied my new skin 'material'. Of course this may now leave us with yet another issue: what if we liked my "fleshed out" texture and want this in combination with the original texture?
Yah, then we're going way beyond the scope of my post (I wasn't even planning on mentioning Designer?) but trust me: even that can work out. I ended up adding my texture which I made in 'Painter' to my Designer project, then "blended" that with the original texture and the result is a bit of both.
So what the heck is your point?!
Simple: raising some awareness of Substance Painter + Designer. And the best part: you can buy both of 'm on Steam; no subscription required. Yes, it took me a little while to learn & set it all up but once I started painting? I was done within 30 or so minutes. Not to mention that 'Substance' provides skin materials/textures of its own and I can assure you: those can work as well... "sorta". You may need to tweak a bit but it'll still be a realistic'ish female.
For the record
Yah, this is with all due respect to Renderotica assets such as "Advanced Pussy" and "Golden Palace". Let me burst the bubble right now: if you're looking for assets that can also be used for penetration or actual realism? Then forget everything I just wrote because it won't work. Not without an actual 3D editor such as, say, Blender or ZBrush.
Much easier & better to grab any or both of the above.
But if you just want a "quick" erotic fix without too much hassle?
Here's a funny one... what about... an advanced pussy (= personal favorite) without the dependency of the "material copier" but instead... blending your own, maybe with some defects attached?
As such point being... If you want to take your 3D endeavors to the next level then in my personal opinion you can't go wrong with Substance Painter + Designer.
Hope this could give you some ideas!
