Hey all,

I've recently been working on a comic (50+ pages) that I think would be a good fit here at Renderotica. I'm new to the concept of actually selling my art (excluding commissions) so I'm a bit of a babe in the woods here. How do I get the process started?

Thanks in advance,

G13D

absinthe is the store manager and you will need to send her some sample images , then she will set you up as a vendor and get you a PDF document telling you how to upload the comic to your store. It may look difficult at first but over time it becomes easier.

Before you upload, make sure your comics has been edited for typo's and adhere to the sites TOS,

Basically no children  even if clothed and no animal sex involving human characters. as the site adhere to north American rules involving content

What you will need when you upload...     Sample images and the PDF will tell you the exact measurement in KB abd KB size of each sample.  You will need a Cover Shot and a thumbnail image of said cover.  Again you must be exact is the size of the items and the KB data size.

You will also need a read me file and the PDF will tell you what you need to put into the read me file. The read me file should be created using word pad and saved as a rich type document, you then need to combine the read me files and your PDF comic and create a zip file

Keep the rich file handy during upload as you can copy and paste text from it into the short and large description parts of the upload process

Again you must adhere to the dimension's of kp size of each image or the upload file will refuse it

I think that covers it unless Absinthe tells you different ly

Best of luck

If a 'comic' is a pdf file, it becomes very much larger than can be sent easily. Is there a technique?

Appologied for responding in the help and support forum earlier,  since it was deemed OK by upper staff My reasoning was simply to give an assist.

MJW asked is there a technique for creating PDF's    One just needs some PDF software.  there are some free converters out there and some you have to buy..  I use Comic Life by Plasq  and within the software there is a PDF converter Built in  They also allow you to export in single pages..in three formats and various DPI settings   but as said PDF's are quite easy

Thanks Shado,
I have the necessary software to generate PDFs. It is rather that they can become very large files. I have slow upload speeds and unreliable connection, so uploading a giant file is not good. I was wondering if there is something that helps the process for this site (as most PDFs do not benefit from file compression software. It is unlikely as the issues of tax and Inland Revenue make it not worth the effort but I would like to know.

Right now I'm using "Comic Life 3" to assemble mine.  You could also use Clip Studio Paint which is more versatile but costs more and is more complex to use.  Love Comic Life's filters and text and anything it can't do I have to do I can do with other software and import it.  I mean text layouts/panel layouts - you obv need to use 3D software first.

PDFs do get big.  A picture is worth a thousand words - but a literal precise pixel by pixel description times however many pages...

The reason I'm typing is your issue with a slow connection and intermittent service.  A "Torrent" is the way to go there.  I haven't used Torrents in a long while and I don't know what any admins would use either - but a torrent can be used to move (eventually) many megabyte or even gigabyte files uploaded.  Now if the admins don't have or use torrents you'd need to get your own webspace somewhere and upload to that then they download.  Good idea for a comic anyways - I'd recommend Dreamhost for your own website (porn friendly, extremist friendly, TOR friendly) but the admins again might have/give out a FTP/Torrent addr to save that.

No worry on legality since it'd be your own IP you are uploading.  Personally I helped relay (with permission) the movie Zeitgeist a year or so as part of a wide effort to spread that film years back.  Many terabytes worth of copies slowly trickling through a slower rural server and no hassle from ISP luckily...

I appreciate this thread - again close to finished with my project #1 issue and was going to ask.

The Plasq Comic life software allows PDF conversions is 4 DPI ranges  The most popular are 150 and 300 dpi

I just did a 169 page comic and at 150 dpi the size after conversion was some 46.6 MB in size

when zipped with the read me file is was 45.5 MB  When unzipped the comic can be viewed at sizes 75-150 % or original Since converting to Comic life I have had a better a nd crisper look to my publications thanks to a built in Page sharpness tool.   My poser renders are 120 DPI in most cases and they are saved as PNG originals before they go to post work. Lately little or no work has been needed except to correct some figure flaws.I also adjust brightness and contrast as the comic life settings are way too touchy

Doing a PDF in say 300 DPI increses the size of the PDF by 35%  Either way I have no problem uploading my zip files as I have cable internet with upload speeds od 7-9 MBPS and download speeds of 75-90 MBPS. I could pay for more but I seem to stream netflix and prime video without problems from the back of the multi port Modem directly to my flat screen TV  now wifi is a tad slower

Thanks Sutut. I will try to learn more about streaming.
Shado, thanks as well. You are running considerably faster than I can - my fastest download is about 3 or 4 mbs, and upload is less than 1mbs. I will wait developments in this brave new world.
