My terrible low end Dell was not cutting it. The memory limitations (8gb max ram on the board) made it difficult to do anything. Just clicking on different nodes on a figure could take minutes.
I'm a fan of AMD laptops. I'm not a big PC gamer, but I do like the occasional game, so I don't need a big gfx card. I like the APUs from AMD with the Radeon integrated chips. It appeals to my sense of thrift.
With the new Ryzen systems slowly coming out, I splurged and got a basic Ryzen 5 laptop from HP. Maxed out the RAM (16gb), got the 128gb ssd with the 7200rpm 1tb hdd. I've had good experiences with HP (aside from a failed hdd, which is not a HP issue) but not everyone is ok with HP.
Gen8 Intel systems still do a bit better at stuff than Ryzen, but I'm not willing to pay for a discrete gfx card that I couldn't use for Daz.
Now I can put together a comic strip, if it all works as expected.
